It was a CRITICAL moment, they both knew that. The handguns that Magneto had taken away from the officers remained SUSPENDED in air…the hammers CLICKED back simultaneously to AMPLIFY his threat. The cameras behind him were STILL rolling footage. Everyone watched was holding in SHOCK. Was this really going to HAPPEN? Were they really about to watch their PRESIDENT die on live television by a terrorist?
At least that’s what they would call him from here on out. Ky’lar’s words were SPOKEN but he did not listen. He was PAST reasoning. Now that Magneto knew the FUTURE, knew what would COME for them…he was not going to let ANYONE stand in his way. If they wanted to SURVIVE, this was the ONLY way.
❛ Such TRIPE, Ky’lar. Where is your PRIDE?! I will not be at the MERCY of these…low...insignificant CREATURES any longer. No…I will not KNEEL before them…If that means I have the HEART of a demon…then SO BE IT. ❜
He looked into the man’s eyes, away from Ky’lar, because at THIS time, it was easier to TUNEOUT the sound of someone trying to REASON with him, turn him AWAY from this. He could SEE Nixon’s guilt, the underlying TENSION. He was not a GOOD man, even before this DEBACLE. There was something he was HIDING.
CORRUPTION. And yet, the people would UNITE underneath his anti-mutant agenda for FEAR…and they would OVERLOOK all of his faults for it….because he would DESTROY them all.
Magneto didn’t even HESITATE, his fist uncurling and the first bullet RELEASING from the pistol. A precise SHOT between the eyes caused an SPLATTER of blood to taint the GRASS. He lingered for a moment…maybe two…before collapsing to his side, eyes WIDE and SHOCKED.
They’d call it the DARKEST HOUR before the end. And yet the mutant stood firm, never WAVERING on his stance as he finally turned to his companion.
❛ We’ll SURVIVE. It’s what we do. ❜
The Demon had ATTEMPTED to reason: to do what OTHER’S couldn’t. With Charles out of the picture ( for the moment ) there was a HIGH likely chance that it wouldn’t END well for anyone — Human, Mutant, or Otherwise.
Of course, with the FUTURE known, it caused PROBLEMS; even more so for Ky’lar since he KNEW what became of himself in the future he was TRYING to avoid.
Though, how much would CHANGE due to his actions?
How much of HISTORY could be rewritten?
The questions that raced through his mind DEMANDED answers as the other SPOKE. He knew that MAGNETO would NEVERbow —- he didn’t EXPECT him to, but at the same time, he wasn’t ASKING THAT.
Ky’lar wanted him ALIVE: to still have a SHRED of human decency LEFT, but he had personally asked far TOO much of the other.
It wasn’t that he LIKED humans; he DESPISED them, but what LENGTHS would they go through due to this ACTION?
He didn’t want to STOP Magneto; he wanted to FORCE him to realize that once he went down this PATH, there would be a point where even Ky’lar would have to get off.
It simply WASN’T his war.
Truth be told, Ky’lar DIDN’T truly CARE about mutants, and they could have all been ERADICATED from existence. It wouldn’t have MATTERED to him in all reality, but Magneto was one of the few who UNDERSTOOD who he was, and one of the few beings on the PLANET that he ENJOYED being around.
So, in essence, he had to make sure at least ONE mutant was alive, and DAMN the rest of them.
‘—–SO BE IT ‘
The final words RANG in his ears for longer than they needed to be: He was willing to MURDER everyone to get his point across and Ky’lar COULDN’T blame him for it.
He had been AROUND humanity for far too long: It showed through as his hands formed into tight fists —- almost WILLING to do something, but instead, he HELD his ground.
Ky’lar KNEW there would be no HESITATION and all it took was the SHOT to hit it’s MARK for all the ANGER he had towards MAGNETO started to fade away. It was all due to the FACT that at the end of the day, the MUTANT would be RIGHT about everything, and the DEMONwould still SIDE with him.
However, there was PART of the demon that never thought MAGNETO would ever go through with this. Even as the BODY hit the ground and the ENTIRE world watched the ASSASSINATION, the little voice in Ky’lar’s mind told him that wasn’t possible, and yet…as REALIZATION struck….. the voice started to FADE away.
MAGNETO made a choice and the DEMON didn’t even know if it was the RIGHT one and even if it was the WRONG choice? There was no going back now.
❛ Understood. ❜
It was all that he could say; it wasn’t even his FIGHT nor his WAR, but he had been honest. The moment that Magneto took things too far —- got him involved too much, Ky’lar would be gone, but NOT yet.
