“ You have seen terrible things, too. “

The words are  w h i s p e r e dhesitant, spoken
as though she wasn’t sure whether or not it would
be WISE to say anything.
                                        But, still, she continues

           “ I know… I know, because you were scared. I saw
the way that your fist clenched and your shoulders tensed.
Yet, there was no trace of it in your eyes. You have… seen
things, have you not

the demon wouldn’t admit he had been scared. not any-longer.
it served as a weakness. a weakness that they needed to get rid of.
fear wasn’t needed; nor was any other type of emotion that wasn’t
hate or rage. sometimes, they could even convince themselves of
that, but today…. attempting to wasn’t possible.

a deep breath was taken in and then let out slowly. if it was up to him,
there would have been many things changed about how he reacted to
things. the only problem was sometimes… his body reacted out of an
instinct he had pushed down long ago; survival

it was always there, always just underneath his skin, but all the same,
he ignored it. that way, he didn’t focus on his fears, and didn’t focus
on the ‘what if’s’ or ‘what could’s’. ky’lar focused on the present… this
just happened to be a moment that he let that slip away.

she was right though, he was scared — terrified even, but he couldn’t
let that show. he never could let that break through. to do so would
inevitably show weakness.

either way, his breathing relaxed as he tried to answer her question;
something to at least show that he was still there. still… alive. even if
such a term could be beyond him at times.

“ i’ve been through hell. ” it was more than that. it always would be
more than just a simple statement, but for now, it was the best he
could possibly do.
