The words are w h i s p e r e d… hesitant, spoken as though she wasn’t sure whether or not it would be WISE to say anything. But, still, she continues.
“ I know… I know, because you were scared. I saw the way that your fist clenched and your shoulders tensed. Yet, there was no trace of it in your eyes. You have… seen things, have you not? “
the demon wouldn’t admit he had been scared. not any-longer. it served as a weakness. a weakness that they needed to get rid of. fear wasn’t needed; nor was any other type of emotion that wasn’t hate or rage. sometimes, they could even convince themselves of that, but today…. attempting to wasn’t possible.
a deep breath was taken in and then let out slowly. if it was up to him, there would have been many things changed about how he reacted to things. the only problem was sometimes… his body reacted out of an instinct he had pushed down long ago; survival.
it was always there, always just underneath his skin, but all the same, he ignored it. that way, he didn’t focus on his fears, and didn’t focus on the ‘what if’s’ or ‘what could’s’. ky’lar focused on the present… this just happened to be a moment that he let that slip away.
she was right though, he was scared — terrified even, but he couldn’t let that show. he never could let that breakthrough. to do so would inevitably show weakness.
either way, his breathing relaxed as he tried to answer her question; something to at least show that he was still there. still… alive. even if such a term could be beyond him at times.
“ i’ve been through hell. ” it was more than that. it always would be more than just a simple statement, but for now, it was the best he could possibly do.
