His grace bristled at the presence of another. His neck twisted, craned to get a look out of his peripheral vision of the being behind him. He didn’t like being surprised, but here he was. Hayyel turned where he stood to face the being proper.  A younger version of himself might have moved to smite the other without question, but time had smoothed some of his habits down. 
His loathing for those connected to Hell remained as strong as ever, but he had learned that not everything was black and white. Heaven had been able to make mistakes and he had seen some residents of the pit were capable of redemption. Even now, it was still easy to slip into the shoes of his former military life.

it was always something. no matter what he did, avoiding those from heaven, hell, or otherwise was impossible. humanity was easy; say a few words and they’d leave him alone. anything else? well, they were far more difficult to avoid.
still, he knew that this wasn’t something he could just walk out of – not with out actually doing something that he’d more than likely come to regret later on. though, even that depended on his mood. “ky’lar,” he said bluntly. “does that work for you?”
