❝ All we have are our hosts – the beings we join with – to forge through the cold and unforgiving cosmos with. The bond between a Klyntar and its host is sacred. They give our lives context and our existence meaning. They give us history. Our hosts tell us who we are. ❞
Steve was well aware that what he was doing right now was dangerous. To make a deal with a demon? To exchange something for a favor? If others knew what he was doing right now, they would most certainly seek a way to stop him. Demote him from this crazy scheme of giving his word to a demon. They would claim that there was another way. That they would find some way to bring not just Bucky – but everyone else back. That’s what they did. They fought against all odds and they would find a way to bring them back.
They would. But Bucky?
Steve lowered his eyes and his hands closed into fists. It was the second time he had seen him die. The second time he was experiencing that feeling of helplessness. That sharp knife piercing his heart and fracturing it in a million pieces. He should be the one to die. Not Bucky. Not when he didn’t want that war. Not when all he wanted was to live in peace. To lose someone that special not once – but twice? There was no doubt in Steve’s mind that they would find a way to bring them back. Yet without Bucky? Without that part of his being? Of his soul? He would never be able to be helpful. He would never stand up beside Thor and the remaining survivors.
Consequences be damned.
The soldier’s eyes lifted with resolve, his jaw clenching as he started back towards the demon. When the time came, he would do exactly what the other wanted – no questions asked. It could be anything. It could cost him his very soul. But for Bucky? To bring him back and not drown in his pit of darkness and pain? Everyone else would kill him if they knew what he had done. And… they would discover. Bucky would discover. It mattered not. It was a price that Steve was willing to pay if that meant heaving the other man back. Alive. The same way he was before he…
“I’ll do it.”
ky knew the answer would more than likely be a ‘yes’. it was the only way to go – especially since steve wanted bucky back so badly. not that he could blame him; not everyone was willing to give up the people they loved the most. especially due to the snap that ripped away so many like something biblical.
the one’s left behind were lost, confused, and even begging for mercy. he could offer it , bring -many- people back, but there was always a price. it never was a good one either – nor was it something anyone wanted to pay. yet… here he was.
making sure that the other said yes – making sure they signed themselves into something they couldn’t get out of. no, ky didn’t want his soul, but he’d eventually obtain it. that was how he worked.. he always got what he wanted in the end.
“it’s a deal then.” he could have said more – could have explained that there would be true consequences to what ky was going to do, but why ruin a good thing? no, he’d deal with them eventually. for now… ky had real work to do. “you’ve made the right choice.”
a look sprawled upon the soldier’s face that dictated all that needed to be said. it was FOOLISH to think that one of said people on the list wouldn’t even know that they were on it,but everyone else he’d hunted down, every single body that had their name etched whether it be before he broke conditioning and he’d gone to wipe them out, or after – they all seemed to know why they may have been.
it’s the BATTLE READY stance that the other takes that has the soldier instantly in the defensive position. he’s ready, willing, and highly capable of a fight —- and even though he wants to avoid this, he knows what needs to be done.
❛ – there’s a list that consists of a threat to hydra’s cause, you’re on it. ❜ a lot of people were on it.
he’s waiting for the other to make his move, and impatiently at that. a soldier, especially one of sniper capabilities was highly trained in the art of PATIENCE, but he couldn’t help but feel as if he were running on nothing more than borrowed time.
❛ and honestly? i think you know exactly why. ❜
OF COURSE, he knew why. if he went back in his own HISTORY he could have given off several reasons( in the basis of fact ) as to why HYDRA would either WANT his head or to bring him in. it was all a SMIPLE matter of mathematics; two plus two DID equal four, but in ky’s case it EQUALED five. he was one of the few PIECES in a much GRANDER game. a game that could prove FATAL to everyone INVOLVED.
‘ — last time one of THEIR agents came runnin’ around here. ’ by here he meant specifically himself ( not the area they were currently at ), ‘ they tried to give me an OFFER. ’ ky didn’t exactly refuse, but he didn’t exactly agree either. instead, he made sure they WOULDN’T be returning – maybe that was why he was on the list ( besides the quite obvious ).
‘ i can see they DIDN’T enjoy my response. ’ not that he could blame them, but that had been a very long time ago – maybe months to years. quite honestly? ky didn’t understand time very well anymore. nor did he think it was important. ‘ or is this just a SOCIAL call? ’ not that it mattered to him. what ky knew of his ABILITIES and the situation were slim – hell, he knew more about the SITUATION he was in right now than what he could do. though, he doubted that it mattered at the moment in time.
still, his hands clenched into tight fists, as he took an involuntary step forward ( one he didn’t even realize until it was already taken ). ‘’cause, i’m not in the MOOD to deal with this shit – not today, not ever!’
There’s a whistle, looking over Ky’lar’s numbers. ‘ That’s a hella of a lot’a souls , ’ Yes, that was a compliment, and one that should be cherished, as it only came around every so often. Glancing up at the demon, there’s a an almost cheeky grin. ‘ I think someone deserves a raise , ’/ @hellfirebound
he did what was needed and what he happened to be good at. souls were easy; spend enough time around humans and you learn what makes them tick. they become easy enough to manipulate to the point were a few right words would make them beg out of his hand.
the compliment was taken with a simple nod. he didn’t need commendation. nor did he need to be acknowledged he had done a good job. still, he was going to be respectful at least around him. ‘ i only did what was required. ’ far more, but he wasn’t going to let his ego speak for him. maybe next time. ‘of my…. position.’
The billionaire took one look at the guy standing in front of him before folding his arms. “Seriously– you knock on MY door and don’t have the common COURTESY to bring me an offering? We’ve got a very strict policy here: you want in the door? That’ll be ONE BOTTLE of brandy, please. No knock-offs, no cheap stuff…”
“just ONE bottle?” not that minding bringing one along, but just ONE? he would have brought two! then again, that would have meant that he CARED enough to actually OBTAIN one to start with. maybe next time. “you SEEM like someone who would DRINK it down in seconds or am i WRONG about that?”
What Natalia couldn’t HANDLE was her boyfriend coming home AGAIN with that threat of a RETALIATION from his lovely job–that she CHOSE not to know about.
“How many times do I have to come home to THIS? I’m not about to get KILLED from bringing your work HOME–I already deal with my own SHIT of a job. Get out.”
most of the time at least, but sometimes things SLIPPED through the cracks. he HATED that certain things were starting to COME UNDONE. not that he could really DO anything about it – not until EVERYTHING moved into place one way or another. still, if she didn’t want him there? TOUGH. she didn’t COMMAND him – no one did. not anymore.
”if you decide to get yourself KILLED, i do believe that’s your problem. NOT MINE!”
“invited.” well, that sounded like a crock of shit. lips press into something akin to a smile, but the kind that masks an apparently building rage. “right. and i’m sure you’re only sticking around to make sure she’s okay.” god, this is what he gets for not raising her himself. “listen, i think it’s probably time you leave.”
“we have a… connection.” it sounded like a corny line out of an old tv series, but quite honestly? he didn’t feel like rephrasing what he said. not at all. “if i leave, she’ll get worried, and that’s the last thing she needs right now.” of course, he was free to leave at any-time… he just stayed due to the fact the house had everything he needed… and then some. “then again… let’s just say the real reason i’m sticking around is quite obvious.” a pause, grin spreading across his lips. “isn’t it?”
❝ been a long time since i last saw you. not sure if it’s a good or bad thing to be honest. ❞ it must have been at least a year since their last interaction & truthfully , aaron was just glad that he needed nothing from ky’lar , aside from a possible catch up , after so long. cocky , confident smile had settled across heavily scarred lips as hands sank into the pockets of his jacket , head tilted ever so slightly to the side. ❝ how have you been holdin’ up , mate? ❞
had it been that long? ky didn’t really remember the last time he saw him, but at the same time… he didn’t really care either. if he was being honest, the last thing he needed was to go down a repeat of what he’d done before. not due to the fact of repeating himself, but mainly as he didn’t feel like wasting energy on half-baked insults or even threats. not today at least. ❝ time is tricky, ❞ he said, arms folding across his chest. ❝ i’m still alive. i believe that counts for something. ❞
