“if you want something just come out with it. I don’t have the patience for guessing games and every time I see you, you need something.” it washelp with his vessel dying the last time so he can only imagine what it was now. as much as he likes the idea of drinking a place dry, he’s not stupid enough to think there’s not a catch involved.
“i don’t always need something.” a full out lie; ky always came when he needed something. even more so when it involved something a bit more… personal. still, he wasn’t going to get into the specifics – not yet. “think of this as… an incentive to listen. anything else will come after.”
the blonde pulls her hand away from his. dejected in some way. perhaps reading too much into his warning, but likely a combination of that and knowing deep down that the feelings she held were a bad idea all around. but knowing that hadn’t stopped them from forming in the first place and it wasn’t going to take them away.
a weak smile as she sat up on the bed, rubbing the need for sleep out of her eyes. “hey, if you need to be alone – i get it… just… don’t do anything stupid, alright? i’ll probably be up when you get back.” if he needed some time alone that meant she would likely spend the night with her sketchpad or catching up on whatever he needed her to do, though direct orders came by less and less these days.
drinking probably had been the worst suggestion to offer to him, but she knew that was what she had used before she had come to be his sort of forced apprentice. she still used alcohol to cope when she could – it was just the easiest way to let down her inhibitions. helped her sleep and calmed her worries for a few hours.
“when have i ever done anything stupid?” a question he didn’t expect to be answered, but all the same, he asked it. if he was being honest with himself, maybe he shouldn’t have said anything – just walking out would have been easier.
that way, he could drown himself in drinks, and not worry about what anyone else would say. there was feelings there; far more than he would admit. the problem was ky wasn’t willing to touch them. he could have – hell, he could have tried to obtain a sense of normalcy, but he knew deep down he didn’t deserve it.
“i’ll be back… when i come back.” if he even managed to find his way back here. while ky wouldn’t simply abandon her… it was always on the play book. ky could walk out and never come back. he just didn’t feel it was necessary – not yet. he hadn’t became too attached her yet, but he was getting close. very close to that point.
“a few hours at most.” or days… he tried sleeping. tried to relax his mind, but instead… all he got was the realization that nothing would ever change. a reason to why he needed fresh air and drinks. anything to get his mind off his own dreams. even if the best distraction was right in front of him.
“ —- yeah, didn’t anyone tell you? attention-seeking comes with super hefty fines. i thought i put a notice on the door.” she laughs, just for a moment, dropping herself into his lap with a sigh. “you want me to get you a book?”
“– and just,” he paused for a moment, moving to run his hands through her hair as she made her way to his lap. “what exactly would these fines be? unless, you’d rather give me some sort of book… instead of your own entertainment.”
“can’t i have a little of both?” he asked, head leaning back on the pillows. “ or is wanting attention illegal now?”
sometimes I think I’m better than everyone else but then I remember I am
A very big name in Hell? Now, that would take a lot of thinking for her. Should she risk her wellbeing for whatever she got in return, or not? However, she did normally like her pay first, for security reasons. If she knew one thing about her kind, it was to never trust them about deals. They lied, a lot. Not only that, but they were taught how to make even the worst deal sound good. Now, this one just sounded too good to be true.
“A very big name? I don’t know about that one. Oh— and I only take my payment before the job. I know how our kind works.”
“ only too well. ” an understatement if he was being honest. he knew exactly how their kind worked; any deal could be made with enough motivation. luckily for him, he didn’t care much about labels these days, and considered himself above most demons. though, not enough so he wouldn’t associate with them, but enough that he could ultimately hold a sense d o m i n a n c e over them ( if needed ).
“however, this is a delicate matter.” more so he couldn’t have anything traced back to him; that would be…bad. really bad. “you can see why i need some discretion.” at least in some parts. “among other things”
“am i now? it’s not like i’ve tried to cause the end of the world lately.” a pause. “or anything like that. you know, i can be half-way decent at times, but the worst? not likely.”
