“an’ i don’t expect you to.” honestly, ky didn’t think she’d do anything, but he’d been wrong before.”i just expect you to take responsibility for one’s own actions… when the time comes.”

“— you do it,” he said, defiance in every single symbol of each word he spoke. he didn’t take advice, orders, or even suggestions well. “maybe then you’ll get the result you want.”

“— no.” maybe he could have simply let him go; that would have been so easy. just to wipe his hands of him. instead, ky decided to squeeze caleb’s shoulder even tighter. “you will stay.”

“—– look what we have here! get lost?”

was he supposed to? quite possibly, but the problem was that ky didn’t see it that way. so what if he’d made a few mistakes? so what if he lacked the ability to see things in her own way – it wasn’t needed. so why should he even try? “you’re right,” he said, bluntly. “i don’t – it’s not necessary.”

ky never did like guns. for one, they were far too clumsy, and for two? after being shot so many times they lost their appeal. sure, he carried one on him, but using it? that was a very rare occurrence ( even more so these days ). so, when he was told to pull the trigger? he hesitated. there was only a few outcomes that could happen if he did pull it, but on the side that the gun stopped working? well, he’d have to get into a physical fight, and he wasn’t in the mood for one. not truly at any-rate. “— yeah, no,” he said, “i don’t take orders well.”

he already had wasted enough of his time on this project due to distractions. first, it had been the several people he killed, and now? now, there was one more useless distraction in his way. all to get a simple file – one that could have the answers to everything. though, he doubted it would give him much in all reality ( if anything at all ). “there has been enough death today. now, give me what i want, and you’ll survive.”

“then you should get out of my way.” while his words were cool, his body language was the exact opposite. ky wasn’t in the mood to deal with anymore unexpected interference. a reason to why he decided to go with a more direct approach. “or you’ll find yourself six feet under.”

“if you’re trying to hurt me, jess, i do believe you should try a bit harder.” cussing at him wouldn’t get either of them anywhere. maybe, at one point it would have, but for now? all it would do would cause the wheels to turn and become an endless cycle. she yells at him, he yells at her, and both would most likely become exhausted.
so, he decided to take a step forward, and grab her throat – not harshly, but just enough to make the point that he wasn’t going to back down at the moment. he would eventually, but for now? no, not a chance. “you might get yourself hurt otherwise.”

“i may have left a few gates open,” he said, leaning his head back in the chair. “though, i doubt this is my fault – shouldn’t you be out there cleaning up the mess?” not that ky expected dante to actually do anything, but it was the thought that counted, wasn’t it? “that’s what you’re good for.”
