“you gotta more than tolerate spending time with me, at least a little. even if you won’t admit it. otherwise you wouldn’t have kept me around this long.” she smiles, ready for whatever grumble of a response that brought out.

“i’ll come… i suppose. but you already brought up the steak house so don’t think we aren’t doing that first. not getting out of that one.” grabbing her jacket, she was not looking forward to what the night had in store. even if he wouldn’t be as hurt as it would look and she doubted he would lose against anyone human, she still didn’t want to watch it.

there was a visible roll of his eyes and  then shortly after a  scoff. in truth, he almost was going to admit why he kept her around, but at the last second stoped himself. “steak house first,” he said, trying to keep his composure as best as possible.

“after that, we’ll see how the night goes from there.” If that meant leaving jess to go home while he fought? so be it – at least he  was trying to think of her… even if it was just so she didn’t have to watch him beat some poor dude into a bloody pulp.

petting the dog’s fur brought a huge smile to her face.. though the runt of the litter was far from a tiny puppy, she could appreciate how small he had to be compared to the rest. realistically, she was more than a little excited that ky brought him home and she was a tiny bit interested into training him to be an appropriate attack dog. “but wouldn’t it be useful to have him eat people sometimes? – our enemies, for example.”

image

“perhaps.” it would be useful – very useful,  but ky was thinking of the general welfare of the hound. not to mention jess herself. “it would have to be trained of course. not to mention it would have to be fed regularly.” he didn’t even know how often dogs needed to eat, but he was sure he’d be able to find out…  one way or another. “if you’re up to it…. it can and we could make sure it does what’s needed. if and when the time comes.”

“This drink, I like it. Another!”

he knew bringing her here was a bad idea. demon bars usually were,  but he’d hoped she wouldn’t get too indulgent in the drinks. especially since he was here on business. so, he left  her alone for maybe ten minutes to go to a back room – simple deal, nothing extremely  dangerous, and then upon coming back to the general area he sighed.

image

“was i really gone that long?” he asked, running a hand over his face. “one more – just one.”

“no one ever wants to have fun with me on halloween. guess i’ll have to think of something that would match some guy that’s there stag and live vicariously through that.” she couldn’t imagine skimping out on her favorite holiday now that she felt more secure with being able to protect herself.

“you’re free to do whatever you want.” he could have gone on to state he didn’t actually care about holidays, but he didn’t feel  it was entirely necessary. “you always have been.” It was his own way of saying she could go – just not to involve him at all. “now, if there’s anything else? i have to get  several  bottles of whiskey for me to burn through while you’re gone.”

“our baby has me and it has you… that’s so much more than what your dad and grandfather allotted you. i mean – you’re not as bad as you think you are either. not anymore at least.” she knew he still had his moments and his urges, but he wasn’t the same person he had been when they had first met. not entirely.

“now… i’m going to make something to eat because i’m starving. we can keep talking about it while i cook… or we could distract ourselves from it entirely…” either way, she was happy to see that he had become somewhat agreeable to giving their baby a chance. being pregnant wasn’t ideal, but she was going to face it headon.

“no, i’m worse.” he didn’t think he needed to explain that judgement  to anyone – least of all her. if he had a choice, he’d leave, and go back to hell. at least then he didn’t have to deal with the mess he had made in his time here. it would have been easier… though it still made things complicated with his recent actions.

“it would be best to remember that, jess. i’m still a demon… first and foremost.” among other things, but he  wasn’t truly a demon – no matter how much he tried to rid himself of his human half. “nothing can change that.”

“some of us were completely happy with enjoying our time with humanity. dear old dad couldn’t let us have much fun, of course.” though her time back then had been a bit destructive to humanity. the births of her sons had meant the deaths of their mothers… but Azza had brought them back. Their appetites were also quite detrimental to the animal population – but boys had to eat.

sometimes she felt bad that she had left her siblings to suffer the fate determined by their father. but her escape had been highly unlikely and bringing any of the angels that had followed her would have been too risky. guess she could be worse things than a selfish captain. “think they’d kill themselves before you got to control them though, unfortunately.”

image

“there is still a chance though. i still could let’s say….get under their skin enough so they’ll work for me. it’s true, they would rather kill themselves, but  why let them? their grace could be quite valuable.” not to mention useful – if it was up to him, maybe he’d be able to use that grace either as a boost of some sort or as a  bargaining chip.

either way, he didn’t think she cared entirely about what he could or was going to do. “if they do happen to…  end themselves before hand? well,  it couldn’t be helped. angels  are  such… fascinating creatures once you get past their attitudes.”

❝ demons have underestimated me before. i’d suggest you don’t repeat their mistakes, but i guess it’s your life and you can do what you want with it. ❞ apparently the tag on her for everyone to think that she could be used to hurt sam wasn’t something that could be ripped off. no matter how she pulled through, time and time again. of course, this wasn’t limited just to her, but there wasn’t anyone else apart from his brother that most people would rank up there quite as important as she was.   ❝ at least tone down the attitude a little bit. ❞

“luckily for you… i’m not a demon.” at least that was what he believed and  told himself today. that way, maybe he’d be able to get close to her, and learn what she did. not that he’d get far  – he knew that from  the start, but he needed to find some sort of connection he could build upon.  “and don’t worry – my attitude is the only part of me people enjoy. we’ll get along just great.”

❝ do you need help finding something? you seem a little lost. ❞ more like out of place. that isn’t to say that she knew absolutely everyone around, but she took advantage of the times that her corner of oregon got sun, which meant that she had a pretty good sense of the typical crowd around her usual spots. shielding her eyes from the sunshine and putting her notebook back in her backpack, she smiled politely at him.

❝ you’re not bothering me i promise. already read over my notes on this book five times today. ❞ just in case he was a shy person that didn’t like asking for help and would further lie and say that they knew what they were doing to make sure they didn’t inconvenience someone. when jessica didn’t have a lot of studying to do, she made sure she knew her notes down to the punctuation to ensure a 100% on the quiz. especially literature. she loved reading, but hated all of the questions teachers asked.

out of place was one thing, but for ky… it was a  usual day of the week. it had only been about a year or two since his life was thrown into shambles (quite literally) in some cases and moving around was easy – more so than anything else. if he stayed in one place too long, people started asking questions, and wanted  to make him feel welcome. something that ky didn’t believe he needed. not now and certainly not ever.

“i’m not lost,”  he  said rubbing  at his temples for a few moments. “far from it actually.” in-fact, he was running…. running away from everything. maybe he’d  eventually find himself, but for now? no, he’d  just keep going until he  found what he was looking for – so far? he’d found squat, but maybe one day he’d find  what he was looking for. just not today… just not  here.

“— don’t you have school or something?” he then pulled out a  bottle of whiskey from his bag. “maybe a boyfriend you can bother… unless you can point me  in the direction  of the oldest church or even  graveyard in the area.”
