“So you finally figure out you’re not invincible and come running back here? Man, you’ve got some nerve…”

He was afraid. More than that, Kurt was hurt. Angry. Confused. He’d never gotten over that day. It seemed he was always thinking of what he could have done, what he could have said. But, in the end, it was Ky’lar that chose his path and burned his own bridges. Now, he was trying to cross the ashes of his past mistakes.

“How do I know you won’t turn on us again, huh? How do I know my friends are safe if I let you in?”

if this was anyone else, he would have used the old phrase ‘have i ever lied to you?’, but the problem was it wouldn’t work anymore. not here, not around kurt, and not around anyone else that was in the general area. maybe coming here wasn’t a good idea, but it was his last chance, and he wasn’t going to screw it up.

“i didn’t come running back here.” rather, he had options, and this was the last one on his list – his final chance to not just stop this from going on further, but also attempt to rebuild everything he had ruined. even if it was just a lie… a lie based on a truth was something. or so he thought.

“all i need is a place to stay for a while — a place that is safe.” more like a place he could hide out at until he figured out how to fix this problem. something…. that he doubted he could ever do. well, besides the option of turning himself in.

Needless to say… this was unexpected.

Kurt felt his fur rise on the back of his neck. His stance grew somewhat defensive and the jovial manner he’d held over dinner was a distant memory. A memory far less distant presented itself to him now. That of a snowy mountainside. Where he’d pleaded the man he thought was his friend to come home, to seek help. Where the only act of friendship he’d been granted was to have his life spared – barely – as Ky’lar made his getaway.

“What do you want?” came a question as wary as it’s speaker. Perhaps, once upon a time, he would have trusted his life to Ky’lar. Now, he wasn’t even sure he trusted him to step through the door.

it was true, he should have just stayed away, and forgot about coming here all together. what he had done was not out of anger, but rather out of a habit that had been formed, and couldn’t be broken. maybe at one time it could have — if he got help. if he actually cared to get help, but ky’lar was stubborn.

even now, he could feel the urge to rip the other apart creeping up under his skin, and the urge to leave once it was finished -no. he couldn’t, no wouldn’t. it wasn’t why he was even there, and yet… those urges were always there. right under his skin and he never could get away from them.

though, as much as he wanted to say to simply talk… he knew it was more than that. much more than simply that. yet, there was hesitation in his voice as he took a slight step forward. “i-,” he sucked in a deep breath, and let it out slowly, “i… made mistakes.” granted, that was obvious, and he never wanted to make up for them.

even back then… he never tried to correct them. “you know i did. just… i have limited time before they find me.” and when that happened… that was when things would get very interesting. more to the point… ky wasn’t willing to let that happen. he wasn’t ready for an ultimate show down. no, not yet… he still lacked true control.

coming back here wasn’t something he wanted to do. he had sided with his own wants – no, needs rather than that of people who could possibly need him. then again, there was doubt in his mind he would have been allowed back at all.

it was a major risk to even come near here, but… it was one he was willing to take. rather, he could have avoided it all together, and yet… with the enemies he had made? it was safer than a hotel room that had security camera’s.

“you might not want to see me,” he managed to get out lowly. “i just need to talk.” rather, he needed someone to talk to. to explain everything and somehow… someway manage to get himself back together.
