There wasn’t much he could do to defend himself there, even if he was the innocent party. Claiming culpability was his favourite past time, taking the blame upon his (sometimes bony) shoulders when such wasn’t necessary. And he wouldn’t have it any other way. “You can, huh?” Johnny makes an effort to roll his shoulders, limbering up for the fight to come. If the unnatural warming of his blood was any indication, their foes were converging fast on the house that had granted them temporary rest. “Guess we won’t have long to see if you’re tellin’ the truth or not.”
It was one thing to say he could handle himself. It was another entirely to do so. Not to say that Ky couldn’t – it just was always a fifty-fifty chance he could, but being beaten to a pulp was only half the fun. “You shouldn’t doubt me, Johnny.” Or maybe he should, Ky would have in the same position. It wouldn’t have mattered how much training he hand. Ky always was a wild card that much was always certain. No matter who he made alliances with. “I may not be the best of company, but trust me… i can deal with anything that’s coming our away.” Or die trying.
“You planning on standing there all day?” Tempted as he was to do the same, Blaze had taken the lazier option and hogged the only seat in the empty house that was available. “The floor’s clean. Should use what time we’ve left to take a breather ‘fore things start gettin’ ugly out here.”
“Well, you shouldn’t have gotten us in this shit-hole.” He blamed it on Johnny when the case was directly the opposite. Not like he’d ever admit it, but that most likely was the truth. “If it takes me standing here to make it go away? So be it – i’ll be fine. I can handle ugly.”
“When it suits me to listen, yeah, I do.” There was no hesitation in his answer, parting with it as easily as breathing. The spirit that granted him supernatural power in exchange for planting a ceaseless need to track down the guilty and devour their sins was a potent force to be reckoned with, but Blaze had gained mastery of it, as well as a resilience to its tempting ways some time ago.
The piece of metal is tossed aside, its purpose spent. They needed to track down the escapee, preferably before their true nature was revealed– granted they were a demon and not something far worse than that. Given Johnny’s luck, though, he is convinced that this incident was about to get far more complex.
“Never had prey that ran off on me like that, either.” That flame engulfed head turns to Ky, suddenly inquisitive. Could this be more proof he needed to send the bastard down below? Who knows.
“Does that happen to ya often?”
Any other time and Ky would have rolled his eyes and gave a quite rude comment towards Blaze. That would have been the easy thing to do should they not have been in this situation.
A situation that was getting worse by the moment. It was only amplified due to the fact that Ky was getting agitated – more than he already was – the presence of the Rider always unnerved him and it cased more than just unease. Ky didn’t notice, but his arm was slowly shifting… revealing his true form.
“No.” A simple answer, but it was clear – just by the tone of his voice- that he was angry. Well, far more than he was a moment ago. There was only a limited number of people who knew the exact nature of Ky’s existence – that number went up by one- and while he didn’t think it was a big deal. Nor did he want to investigate the matter… he knew that their problems were just starting.
“We’ll find them and then F͟Ǫ̸̴R̶C̨̨E͞ ̧̕͝th̶̡͠e̷ a͘͟͠n͠͡s҉ẁ͞͏e̷̛͢r̨ś͠ ̨͠ou͘t.”
“As it happens, I do, but I ain’t gonna waste my good material on V̨É̶̡R͠M͘͡I̡͡N̴ like you.” Had those been his own words, or those selected by Zarathos? It was getting difficult for him to distinguish himself from his demonic other half when in this man’s presence. And did not seem concerned about this in the slightest. “How much time ya got to spare? Should we be expectin’ visitors? ‘Cuz it feels like whenever one o’ you bastards show up, more tend to appear in the same place.”
“I’m about as H̸҉UM͝A͠Ǹ as Y̧͜͡Ǫ̧͘͠Ú̴͢͠͡ !“His voice raised much higher and was far more distorted than he realized, but Ky didn’t care. Not at the moment at least. Vermin he may be, but in his mind? He saw Johnny as no different than he was, but in his own case he didn’t really have a choice. “And trust me… the only one’s who ever bother me are the two of them.” And hopefully neither of them showed up. That would just make things far more complicated and no doubt violent.
Would it do for him to groan? Probably not, but he knows what must be done now regardless of personal opinions. At Ky’lar’s approach, he offers the man a tight smile, ever the courteous chauffeur, if for dropping the man at the nearest inhabited town. Leaning back on the chopper he’s tentatively straddling, hands are planted around the saddle, nodding to the space behind him for the man to take a seat.
“Hey, stop dawdlin’. If you want a lift, hop on now, or else enjoy trying to tough it out here in this desolate place after dark.”
“Will you look at that – Johnny Blaze is offering me a ride.” Ky could have made a few more vulgar smart-assed comments, but restrained himself. After-all, Ky could have made it out of here with-out the other’s assistance, but it would have been far more taxing. So, he chose the easier option… this time around. “I wonder,” he said, getting on the bike with a smirk. “If people will talk about this. I mean, Johnny blaze giving the son of what was it – arch-enemy- a ride?” Obviously his words were sarcastic, but truthful all the same.
“Don’t you have any other choice words to say? You know, something other than calling me names, Old man.”
There was a roll of his eyes at the comment from Johnny. It didn’t matter if it was the Rider speaking or otherwise. It wasn’t Ky’lar’s problem if someone asked too many questions. Nor did he feel it was necessary to investigate.
In Ky’s mind, he’d been keeping out of trouble, and he figured that was enough to keep the Rider from sending him back ‘home’. Of course, there was doubt in his mind it would last for long – Ky never could restrain his tendencies… no matter how hard he tried.
“Do you always listen to what IT says?” The answer didn’t matter to Ky. He didn’t care about the Rider… just as long as the spirit didn’t come after him. “Or is this just a special case?”
