well, he couldn’t disagree with that. jess was cute, but maybe maiming her was a bit too harsh. plus it would put their whole relationship in jeopardy and that was one thing he wasn’t going to do – not if he could avoid it at least. “well, we could get drunk, find someone to maim, and have a little fun afterwards. if you’re up for it.”
❝ i think you are placing a little too much faith in your multitasking skills. ❞ she took the book and placed it down slightly out of his reach.
❝ or are we uncovering yet another area of bored experimentation? ——— cause i mean, if i’m not entertaining enough, i almost have good chances of finding someone half decent at the bar.❞
❝ well, i’ve been known to have amazing multi-tasking skills.❞ it was a lie, but then again, he didn’t care about the truth – at least for the moment. ❝ you just have yet to actually see them. ❞
still, he couldn’t help the frown forming across his lips as she talked about going to a bar. in truth, he didn’t like that she might spend time around someone else. it may have made him jelous, but right now? he didn’t care so much. ❝ however, i do believe that could be changed, ❞ he said, pushing himself up slightly. ❝ unless, you’d rather be spending your time with some… idiotic meat sack in a bar. ❞
the one time that he wanted had convinced himself to actually go to sleep was far more eventful than he had liked. while ky didn’t need to sleep, he still did it every once in a while… to feel like he wasn’t slipping away. to maybe feel something different when he woke up. though, all he found this time wasn’t what he could call memories, but rather… what could happen if he was dragged back to hell.
he went there voluntarily once, but soon learned no one deserved to go there. nor did he ever want to go back. still, he knew that it was quite possible that it would happen – especially with his ex’s, and the other’s he’s pissed off over the years.
“i’m fine.” a lie, he wasn’t fine, and every single fiber of his body was on edge. he just couldn’t focus properly on anything around him. a reason to why he gripped the sheets tightly; anything to keep him stable. to keep him from slipping back to more…violent urges.
“i just…” a deep sigh escaped his lips. “it’s complicated.”
❝ he never cared… especially not in the ways that he made everyone believe. and he’s real and still out there. acting on his selfish desires. he’ll really regret how hands off he has been when they get my brother freed from his cage. then everyone, including hell’s worst torturers have plenty to fear. ❞
❝ well, there is more of a chance of him being freed than him coming back. ❞ he still didn’t believe that GOD was real. demons, yeah, he managed to get, but some all powerful being? yeah, no. he would file that away as fiction. just like the existence of heaven. ❝ an’ even that’s slim.❞
❝ you gonna pay attention to me yet or am i going to have to rip that book out of your hands?❞
❝ well, can’t i do both? ❞ a slight grin pulled at his lips, placing the book down, and then giving jess his full attention. at least for the moment.
❝ i could read and quite possibly do things to you… that you didn’t even know was possible. ❞ was it flirting? a bit – his own version of it at least.
“i have my reasons,” he said, glancing around, and sliding his hands to his back pockets. “i need people to lift an eyebrow – even just slight to get the attention of someone. if i know my history, you might even get the bastard to come out – oh, by the way, you’re the bait.”
❝ never really made sense to me. my brother was locked away in a cage for creating the first demon yet that demon has been allowed to create millions more. dear old dad just can’t sit with the fact that his favorite dared to defy him.❞
❝ have you ever thought that maybe he doesn’t care? ❞ it was possible. he never saw any sort of caring from a god – not here, not while in hell, and not while he was fighting for his life. no, if there was one… he was long gone, and it would stay that way… if he had anything to say about it. ❝ or maybe… he never really existed at all. ❞
❝ i’m one hundred percent not doing that. my resurrection, my rules. i may not have been able to control my first death but i’m going to try my hardest to avoid something stupid this time around. ❞
❝ i don’t believe you have a choice in this. ❞ at least, when he was calling the shots. a reason to why his eyes changed color for a few moments as he continued on. ❝ nor will you. so, if i tell you to be the bait so i can take out the opposition? you’ll do as i say or i’ll skin you alive, ❞ his tone grew darker, ❝… piece by piece. ❞
“—— a date? told you i would grow on you.” with a chuckle, the joke that basically confirmed that she would be going to hell for laughing at instantly forgotten.
“but seriously, are you feeling alright? i mean, i’m not one to ever pass up an opportunity for a nice steak but…”
“think of it as an opportunity if you will.” a slight grin pulled at his lips, “if you think date is too harsh of a word.” though, she was right – something was off, but ky wouldn’t admit it. not around her. not when he was finally doing something he had put off for quite some time.
“there isn’t much that’s better. while humanity may be entertaining, even ruining the monotony of their lives becomes tiresome. moreso than their constant fighting and screaming about what’s fair and what isn’t.” she had considered getting away, somewhere humanity hadn’t tainted either because of weather or dangerous animals, but despite not wanting to get into politics she remained close by, monitoring to see that heaven and hell’s pursuits never fully panned out.
“at least i have the ability to remain undetected when necessary. though i believe everything stops looking when they believe you are dead for a few years.”
“usually they don’t ask questions.” then again, in his experience ky was lucky if anyone asked questions. though, the answers were sometimes not what was wanted. either way, it didn’t matter too much for him — if he wanted to run away from everything, he had several places in mind, and all of them were hard to get to. “nothing is ever fair. they just believe everything should be given to them on a platter. after a while… you get tired of their whining.”
