❛ oh no you don’t. ❜ she greets him with an outstretched arm, palm out, halting. the other hand grips a stake that’s not meant for ( nor would it be effective on ) him. ❛ there’s a full pint of rocky road in the freezer and a scream marathon on tv tonight. whatever you’re about to suggest, the answer is no. ❜ both arms move, crossing over her chest, and buffy shakes her head adamantly. ❛ i’m finishing this patrol, jumping in my jammies, and staying in for the rest of the night, so unless you’re in the mood for movies on my couch —— ❜ her head tilts to the side, impatient expression on her face. ❛ —— you might as well just keep on walking. ❜ // @hellfirebound——— x
❛ —– you mean like a date? ❜ it was a question that he blurted out faster than he could help himself. not that he’d ever expect her to say yes or anything of the sort, but it would ( most likely ) distract her from questioning any further for why he was out here. ❛ if so, i accept, but we should really get to know each other better, ❜ he said, grin pulling at his lips. ❛ you know, there could be complications; me, the dashing demon with anger issues and you… the slayer, a human girl who hunts down the darkness. ❜ it was poetic really – ky may even write a song about it… if he ever got motivated enough.
❛ uh—— ❜ stance steadied, hands found their way to hips, she wasn’t offended, but certainly ready to prove a point. ❛ ——i am special. the chosen one, you know — unto every generation and blah blah—— ❜ one hand abandoned its perch at her hip to press against her chest. ❛ ——that’s me, i’m this generation’s slayer. so yeah, special. ❜ never mind that the whole chosen one had gotten a little bit muddy when she died that… those times. but that’s really not the point.
hand remained at her chest, but now her expression morphed into something of mock delight. ❛ i’m your first ? wow, how touching, that’s a big step, i wasn’t sure i’d be ready for it but—— ❜ the false excitement was cut off on an edge of sarcasm, and both arms moved in unison now to cross over her chest.
❛ look, all i know is that you’re probably going to cause less trouble if i’m there — right ?❜ she didn’t give him time enough to answer before she was slinging the crossbow on her back and walking ahead. ❛ right, so let’s go. what’s the worst that can happen ?❜ famous last words, a voice in the back of her head reminded, but she was hell bent ( pun intended ) on ignoring it.
❛ yes, the chosen one. ❜ he rolled his eyes as he spoke the words. ❛ once every generation to kill – what was it again? supernatural creatures that go bump in the night? oh, that must be fun. ❜ the idea that someone was created to deal with these threats were interesting, but he wasn’t going to dig more into the situation about slayer than necessary.
❛ you see, if i cause less trouble, two old men; a red and black one won’t try to drag me back. if they see you, they’ll get more angry – so try to at least keep me under control. ❜ or not. the specifics didn’t matter to him on what she did. just as long as she managed to observe, keep him from doing something stupid, and what have you.
❛ or would you rather try to stab me again? i mean, true, i did find it kinky, but unfortunately for you? ❜ he smirked ❛ maybe give it a few years – you may become my type. ❜ or not. it didn’t really matter to him in all reality. ❛ or does being a slayer mean you can’t have a boyfriend? ❜
❛ one problem with your little threat, mister—— ❜ shoulders moved in a quick shrug as if she only just realized they were strangers. ❛ ——whatever. if you were gonna do that, you would’ve done it already. ❜ cocky, perhaps, but while nina was very aware of her own mortality, she had never really feared the concept of death. so far, that confidence had managed to keep her alive. but this was becoming such a hassle for a little bit of fire, and nina was beginning to regret calling out to him in the first place, especially if it came with a lecture.
❛ look, pal. i know that. everyone who smokes knows that. doesn’t mean i’m gonna quit. certainly doesn’t mean i need a lesson on addic— ❜ trailing off as he pulled out the lighter, she rolled her eyes in exasperation, offering a murmured thanks around the filter as she held it again between her lips before lighting it. one slow inhale, one slow exhale, and she was temporarily sated. it dangled between her fingers as she handed the small lighter back to him, a curious hum while she studied him for the first time, annoyance all but dissipated. ❛ so — why are you lurking around out here, anyway ? ❜
a smirk spread across his lips; the offering of the lighter was an olive branch of sorts. her words before that point being more or less ignored. oh, he heard them, but ky’lar simply didn’t care – not really at least. not today.
❛ oh, you know; no hotel room. no prospects for the future – a family who wants you dead. ❜ he couldn’t help, but shrug at his own words. ❛ you know, the usual stuff. ❜ of course, he doubted his family could be considered usual in any standards, but then again? it wasn’t like he had a chart to compare things – nor did he actually want one in all reality.
she doesn’t want to be back in this stupid town, but there are plans to set in motion, and with the amount of problems getting in her way, it has become painfully obvious that she needs to take care of things by herself.
but she’s not by herself, it seems. someone is lurking around the foyer — she can hear them from the second floor — and that does not bode well at the moment, especially when there’s so much to do.making her way downstairs in a flash so that she can meet her intruder face to face, she’s met with confusion followed by frustration that her preparations have been interrupted by this little visit.
❛ oh no, the big bad ——whatever you are. ❜ she waves a hand impassively, boredom seeping through her tone, and katherine is clearly unimpressed with his presence — as ominous as it may be. first, the house has been warded, so he shouldn’t be able to get in, and second, no one’s meant to know she’s in town. it’s these facts alone that demand her regard, and with a role of her eyes she turns to face him, expectantly, an expression of false politeness plastered over her features. ❛ well —— now that you’re here, and you’ve got my attention, why don’t you tell me what it is that you want ? ❜
❛ big bad? ❜ an eyebrow lifted at the comment. it was one thing to admit he was bad, but big bad? it always made him chuckle, but that thought was soon replaced by curiosity. sure, he knew this place was warded – it took a while to even get in, but it was the best place to stay. the wards would at least blind a few people and that was important or so he thought at least.
❛ no yelling, no telling me to get out? ❜ he had to admit that he was slightly impressed with out being thrown out instantly, but he’d never admit it. at least directly. ❛ seems like you have dealt with this before. ❜ or maybe he was just over-thinking things. ky didn’t know the exact reasons for why he wasn’t being thrown out instantly, but he’d know eventually. or maybe he wouldn’t. either way? he didn’t really care about her reasons – only that they didn’t interfere with his own plans.
❛ —- as for what i want?❜ his hands slipped into his back pockets for a few moments. ❛ let’s just say i’m on the look out for potential. ❜ ky then took a step closer. ❛ that and the little fact i’ll be around for a while — maybe we could help each other out. ❜
she caught the beer with ease — eyes never leaving him — and opened it as he continued speaking. he wasn’t wrong about privacy, especially in the world they were living in, just about anything could be bought and sold as long as someone was willing to pay the price. she’d paid plenty for her own life, time and time again. but that was a story for another time. ❛ and your family matters — ❜ s he latched onto the comment as it was offered, using it to leverage her own dialogue, but kept her tone light and conversational all the while. ❛ — are they becoming problematic as of late ? ❜ one brow climbed higher on her forehead as she took a drink. natasha could understand being on the move, staying under the radar, it was all she’d known for a long time. what she needed to know now was the extent of his situation, and what kind of problems might crop up as a result.
his family was always problematic. hiding from them proved to be impossible. a stark realization that he came to when he attempted to do just that. it lasted for a short while actually, but then everything went down hill. he was found, dragged back home, and while he didn’t truly remember the rest? he doubted it truly mattered. least of all at the current time.
there was a reason he’d been keeping his head down and avoiding his almost usual tendencies. well, avoided was one way of putting it, but not exactly the best. nothing had changed at all. ky just made sure everything he did was under the radar – that way he wouldn’t have to worry about being tracked or little visits like… this.
❛ well, i’m sure someone has a file on me. ❜ if not, he’d want to make sure they made one – if only due to the fact of record keeping and everyone had one didn’t they? he thought as much. maybe he’d actually make a point to steal it as well. maybe that way he’d see what they said about him. ❛ and my… family members. ❜
there was a shrug. ❛ well, you know how they… can be. ❜ instead of elaborating, ky moved to take a drink of his beer. ❛ — annoying. ❜
❛ don’t—— ❜ she began, stopping as he did. don’t bullshit me, were the words poised to jump from her tongue. nat had learned long ago what kind of destruction could come from someone worming their way under your skin and festering, pushing until you broke. she’d had more blood on her hands than most ( more than him?she doesn’t know ), and she certainly knew what it looked like. he changed his approach, and so did she, brow rising higher on her forehead as she awaited whatever story he was ready to spin. no gun was in her grasp, but that didn’t mean that the former spy didn’t have a few tricks up her sleeves, or that she wasn’t a weapon in her own right. despite the way her stance may have appeared casual to an onlooker, the black widow was prepared for a fight if it came down to it.
without relaxing, she let out a slow breath when he seemingly thought better of telling tall tales, and her arms came out in front of her, as if open to whatever he had to say ——as if she was ready to listen. ❛ okay. how ‘bout you tell me exactly what happened here—— ❜ a wry smile found its way to her lips, though there was no amusement in her eyes as she watched him, warily, never letting her guard down. ❛ ——and i’ll decide what we’re going to do with you. ❜
as much as he would have loved to explain what exactly happened, a part of him knew it would only lead him into worse trouble. not that he could get into more trouble than he already was, but there was always a possibility that he’d spend the rest of his life in a small cell. a cell, that would have been a walk in the park compared to what would happen if he was ever forcefully sent back home. at least then, he’d be safe – for a time -, but everyone got what they deserved… even if it wasn’t anything close to what they necessarily wanted.
❛ we had a disagreement. ❜ wrong, it was far more than that; ky started a fight, he got angry, and he didn’t hold back. for an instant, he actually thought that he didn’t need to hold back. one dead body wasn’t anything to lift an eyebrow at. he’d been under control for weeks – longer than he had anytime before. he was actually avoiding anything that could get him ‘noticed’ and then this. ❛ it’s not the first time it’s happened either – i just… ❜ and then he trailed off as he leaned his back against a wall. ❛ i don’t know. ❜
should have is an understatement, and she responds to it with a barking laugh. ❛ don’t tempt me ——the night is still young. ❜ rolling her eyes, buffy relaxes more than she probably should. despite their somewhat friendly relationship, she’s still a slayer, and he’s the kind of thing she usually slays. she already knows what the rest of the gang would say if they knew about these meetings ——accidental or otherwise.
❛ blah blah blah, whatever. i get it, you’re cocky. but tone it down a notch, will ya ? ❜ as he continues, her eyes widen marginally, gaze moving from him to the mess at her feet, and she lets out a frustrated sigh. ❛ this was your handiwork ? ugh. ❜ she’d throw her hands up in the air if the crossbow’s weight wasn’t a factor, but instead she crouches down to get a better look at the body. at first glance, nothing stands out, and she looks back up to ky’lar with a raised brow. ❛ and this helps me, how ?❜
he clapped his hands again; just due to the fact he could. ❛ i could also turn it up a few notches, but i’ll try to refrain from doing anything too fatal. ❜ a lie, if ky had the chance, there was no doubt in his mind he’d make things fatal. in-fact, he was planning on making things that way as soon as he could. that way, he wouldn’t have to deal with explanations later on.
❛ as for them, ❜ he gestured towards the body, ❛ they were getting a little too close for comfort and i took the initiative to dispose of them. ❜ ky shrugged. ❛ i didn’t get fully what they were after, but it’s not a big deal. ❜ well, not really in his mind, but it was – more so since ky knew more than he was letting on. ❛ besides, it’s not the first time i had to… dispose of someone snooping around. ❜
buffy’s arms crossed over her chest as he spoke, her lips pursing as if trying to hold in an onslaught just waiting to be released. ❛ you say things like that just to placate me, and we both know it. ❜ but even as she spoke the words, and even though they were accompanied by a dramatic rolling of her eyes, there was still a reluctant smirk on her lips, in spite of it all. a sigh — equally dramatic — expelled along with slumped shoulders, as if in an over-the-top performance of defeat.
finally, she shook her head, already knowing she was going to go along with whatever he had planned, if only — as he said — to keep him out of trouble. it was infuriating that he managed to talk her into these things, but — he was right in that whatever he was up to would probably only serve to piss her off if she found out about it later.
❛ don’t be so modest, ky, ❜ she half-huffed, half spoke in a coy tone, eyes sparkling with amusement. ❛ i bet you take all the girls on adventures that lead to them wanting to kill you. ❜ a shrug, as if it was simply the truth of things and then she was nodding. ❛fine, where are we going —— and exactly how much am i going to regret this later? ❜
❛ and you seem to think you’re special because you’re the slayer. ❜ ky didn’t believe in that sort of title – no matter how she played it. from what he knew, they were powerful, but he didn’t believe the stories. nor did he think that a slayer was as powerful as told.
of course, he’d never admit that to her. if something happened, he’d depend on her to either get him out of the situation or… track him down. it was just a matter of time what would happen in all reality. ❛ and for the record, i don’t take random girls on adventures.❜
❛ you’re… you’re the first. if that means anything. ❜ it most likely didn’t, but he doubted that it mattered now or ever if he was being honest with himself. all that did matter was not making a larger mess than entirely necessary.
❛ now, ❜ he said, taking a step forward, ❛ all you need to do is supervise. if i go a little too far? well, ❜ his lips formed into a grin. ❛ good luck with stopping me.❜
this was the very thing he was attempting to avoid; enemies on all sides and nowhere to turn. well, he could have just gone home, but that would have been worse than simply placing his back against the wall. in his mind, he fought, and thought better when his options were limited. the same options that lead him into this little ‘situation’ with real blood on his hands. not to say that he hadn’t had blood on his hands before, but this was different. this was something he tried to avoid, but his habits never did fade away. the wrong word, the wrong look, and then everything turned right back to how it should be. or so he kept telling himself over in over again in his head.
❛ this isn’t – ❜ a lie, he wanted to finish with what it looked like, but it was exactly what it looked like. a simple chat, that was all this should have been, but they asked too many questions. asked the wrong (or even right ) ones and now they were dead – just his luck. ❛ — crap. ❜ the only thought on his mind was to run – get out of there, but something held him in place. maybe his own sense of morality or maybe it was a slight twinge of regret. whatever it was… he didn’t like the feeling of it.
❛ privacy isn’t a luxury people like us can often afford. ❜ the sentiment spoken airily, as casual as if they were simply two friends partaking in small talk. not that nat considered herself like him, exactly, but like him there were too many eyes watching for her at any given moment. and like him, it was not probable that she would remain out of their sights forever. unfazed by his disrobing, the former agent leaned back in her chair, brow raised as if in challenge. ❛ i wouldn’t mind a beer, if you’re offering. ❜ it wasn’t as though she was trying to drag this out — not really — but enhanced or not, even spies could use a rest from time to time, and she wanted to enjoy the lull in activity ——even if only for a moment. ❛ and then maybe we could have a little talk. ❜
it was common when he was alone that he wore close to nothing. pants were usually what he had on most of the time; easier that way, far more than attempting to deal with a shirt. still, he grabbed another beer, and tossed it her way. if anything, maybe being decent would benefit him for once, but even that was doubtful. ❛ privacy can be bought and sold, ❜ he said popping open the can. ❛ sometimes you can keep it for a good long while, but other times? not so much. ❜ not that cared. killing whoever interrupted or was watching easy…. most of the time at least. however, even then, he knew that was a way to get tracked – possibly what lead him to this situation. ❛ a reason to why i keep on the move. especially due to my own little… family matters. ❜ though, calling his family ‘arguments’ little was a massive understatement.
