❛ oh trust me, i’m aware what bites can do ——and humans are fragile, we get it. ❜ it was basically in her job description to try and stop some of those deaths from happening. death by hellmouth denizen had to be the most common cause of death in sunnydale, followed closely by heart disease and human stupidity.
❛ pretty sure we already covered your would-be-death, pal. and while this conversation is certainlyriveting, i’m not sure i’m finding any joy in it. ❜ still, she didn’t attempt to use the dagger against him once she moved to take it from his grasp, a huff as buffy dragged the flat side of the blade over her leg to clean it off. who knows what kind of gunk he got on it. ❛ so who are you, anyway ? ❜
❛ they also are arrogant, spiteful — they destroy everything they touch, and have you even seen how horrific they can be to one another? ❜ still, he couldn’t help the smirk that spread across his lips at his own works.
❛ as for who i am, ❜ he said, hands slipping into his pockets, ❛ you can simply call me a friend. ❜ though, the reality of the situation was vastly different – he wasn’t a friend – the only reason he was being even slightly decent was due to the fact he was amused. the moment that faded… well, that was when he would fall back into very old habits that were not broken so easily. ❛ one, that has taken an interest in this place, and more importantly, you. ❜
❛ mmm, let me think about it —— ❜ arms still crossed over her chest, one hand rose to rest under her chin — the thinker in the flesh — for just a moment as she made contemplative noises as if seriously considering the question. ❛ —i’m gonna go with nope, and that’s my final answer, regis, because if you hadn’t noticed, that dagger would have killed you if you were really human. ❜ or various other creatures, for that matter, but the point was moot.
❛speaking of. any chance you wanna hand it back over ? it’s kind of a big deal in the whole slayer lore of it all, and i know one very cranky old british dude that will have both our heads if i lose it to —— ❜ a hand waved up and down in front of her while a confused scowl painted her features, as if to indicate him. ❛ —— you know, whatever you are. ❜
❛ a simple bite, the wrong combination of elements, and even walking down the street can get a human killed. ❜ he knew that already. it didn’t matter how rich, poor, or otherwise. people lived and people died. sometimes, they managed to be in-between the little thing of life, and death. sometimes, it was easy to fall in between both worlds. he just didn’t think about. nor did he want to.
❛ more to the point, ❜ he flipped the dagger again in his hand, ❛ if i was just human, you would have killed me, and we wouldn’t be having this joyful conversation, ❜ he then handed the dagger towards her, ❛ would we? ❜
❛ got somethin’ to fuckin’ say, or just enjoyin’ the view?❜ tactful, she is not, and the harsh bite to the words scream danger if he answers the wrong way. anne takes a long drink from the stein in her hand — eyes on him all the while. ❛ —out with it, then. ❜
❛ i’ve seen better. ❜ a simple statement, nothing more, and nothing less. if he really was enjoying the view, he would have made sure his presence wasn’t known, and stayed out of sight. ❛ much better in fact. just not here… not now. ❜
❛ what ? no !❜ okay, that probably came out harsher and faster than necessary, and buffy was already cringing at her response. but honestly — what was he playing at ? ❛ i mean, my dating life is tragic. so — no, probably best to not even consider going down that road. ❜ that sounded… better-ish, but as if in clear betrayal of her words, her stomach chose that very moment to growl loudly, reminding her that she hadn’t eaten all day. she still wasn’t clear as to his reasons behind asking her to dinner, but with a shrug, she conceded. ❛ but uh, i guess i could eat. ❜
truth be told, his own dating experiences were bad enough, and usually ended up leading into pain. if not for himself personally, to everyone involved, and it was why he was avoiding it. either way, it didn’t mean he couldn’t be decent — if it meant buying dinner for someone who wanted him dead? well, it was something he would have to do. ❛ name the place and nothing’s off limits. ❜ he may not need to eat much anymore, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t at least fake it seemly act typical.
well that was unexpected. and she took just a moment to gape in surprise as he barely flinched when the blade found its mark and stuck solidly out from his chest. she’d killed countless vampires and demons with the thing before, and she was about to open her mouth to ask exactly what manner of creature he was when the casual comment came falling from his lips instead.
❛ why ? did she stab you in the heart ?❜ there was a wry quality to her tone as the question formed, clearly not amused by the comparison ——not that she had any idea who his ex was, or who he was, for that matter. buffy’s arms folded over her chest as he continued to speak, and her head tilted to the side as she took a better look at him —still unsure of what she was dealing with.
❛ great. good for you. wanna tell me what it is you are, then ? or should we go through your entire work history ?❜ she didn’t even know if he meant to kill her, or not, but whatever his deal, buffy wanted to find out and get it over with.
as much as he wanted to avoid the obvious, he knew that it was impossible going forward. a reason to why he pulled the knife out of his chest with a grunt. keeping it in his right hand, he glanced it over for a few moments.
❛ actually, she sent me back home a few times. last time was the real deal breaker between us. ❜ rather, it was more that ky didn’t care anymore, and relationships were so… taxing. he would have rather had no restrictions on what he could or couldn’t do. a reason to why he enjoyed that simple freedom of not being shackled to someone.
❛ then again… ❜ he trailed off for several moments as he flipped the dagger in his hands, ❛ i don’t think species really matters. ❜ or, rather, he didn’t think it mattered for the moment, ❛ i’m human enough. doesn’t that mean anything? ❜ there was doubt that it would, but still, couldn’t blame the him for trying.
❛ ——sorry, what ? ❜ unexpected didn’t even begin to explain the question that had been posed to the slayer. she blinked at him. had they graduated from trying to kill each other ( mostly her trying to kill him, considering it’s her job ) to casual dinners and conversation? buffy was dumbfounded for a while longer than she should have been, before shaking it off with a tilt of her head. ❛ are you asking me out ?❜
ky’lar didn’t see it as asking her out. in his mind, he saw it as simply paying her for her time, and company. true, she wanted to kill him, but the least he could do was play decent. ❛ would you like me to? ❜ either way, it wouldn’t matter to him as long as it got the job done, ❛ i could do that… if you wanted. ❜
