you know that i have to stop you, right ?       it’s a statement more than a question. she doesn’t know what happens to someone such as him if his plans are left to come to fruition, but natasha is pretty damn sure she knows what i means for her, and the rest of humanity.

did you really think we wouldn’t stand in your way ?

it always came down to the obvious, but then again, if it was up to him, he wouldn’t have any resistance at all. just a simple get-in, get-out, and get the job done. of course, life never exactly was easy — he learned that the hard way long ago. a reason to why he had attempted to calculate almost all possibilities. up to and of course, including this one, ❛ i was hoping… it could have been avoided. ❜ he spoke the honest truth, but then again, he was far beyond his means with what he was planning. he also knew that if he didn’t play his cards properly, there would be no second chances, and he would find everything he had worked towards crumbled around him,  ❛ —– then again, this isn’t the first time i’ve been wrong, and it won’t be the last either. ❜

the laughter that follows his statement of terms is easy and almost unexpected even for her. in truth, the words catch her off guard —that he’d actually think himself important enough for such treatment is wildly amusing. she had told him to name his price, of course, but she’d never said they’d pay it.    is that some kind of joke ?     as of yet, he’d done nothing to redeem himself in her eyes, nothing to prove such a task warranted. she could do it, of course — she’d wiped enough from her own records — but he would need to EARN it.  ❛   don’t push your LUCK, sweetheart. just because i’m here with a job offer, doesn’t mean you’re my only option, and it certainly doesn’t stop me from hauling your ass in.

he knew that his words were risky, but still, he wasn’t going to give up on this chance. if he could manage to get his records wiped, it would help, but at the same time… there was a doubt it would ever happen, and her words ( as well as actions ) confirmed that,  ❛   it isn’t a joke.  ❜  he said bluntly,  ❛  i want EVERYTHING gone. ❜  it wasn’t the only way he would agree, but… that was what he was aiming for,  ❛  you might have other options, might even have better one’s, but you asked me my PRICE  ❜ it was high, he knew that much, and it was why he was willing to negotiate ( to an extent ).  ❛ .   you can drag me in if you want, but i can assure you that i’d be of more use on a better side than the one i am now. ❜ a pause,  ❛   plus, i doubt you have a cell that would hold me for good.  ❜

the last person who betrayed me? i broke his larynx

there was no doubt about it that ky’s mouth should have stayed shut; going down this route wasn’t going to turn out well for him. true, he betrayed people all the time, but they were usually dead after the fact. a reason to why he was hoping that things wouldn’t go that far — at least he hoped as much, “… is that really what you think of me? we had a deal. i won’t break it simply for a better opportunity down the line.”

‘  in my experience, there’s always something that serves are reason enough to come out of retirement.     the comment was tongue-in-cheek, in a way, and coupled by the smallest incline to one corner of her mouth ( though the amusement didn’t quite reach nat’s eyes )  she leaned in closer, voice dropping to a low whisper.   ‘  so name your price.

her words were true ; there was always something that would get him to actually do something. he’d tried before, got shut down more times than he could count, and then stopped trying. after-all, it was far easier to commit crimes ( such as murder ), than try to actively stop them. ‘   my records wiped,     it was an attempt to get him invisible again — anything so he wouldn’t have to deal with anyone knowing more about him than absolutely necessary,     as well as… any and all investigations into what i’ve done dropped.     it was a  risk to even ask such a thing, but… he still didn’t feel like being in a high security prison anytime soon.

“ I don’t do that anymore.” A lie, he was just trying to save face, and not get involved. Every time he did so, it either blew up in his face, or he was told to stand aside. It was to that very reason he was making sure that he stayed out of everything —- even if he actually wanted to get involved, “Find someone else.”
