Shifting once more as the demon decided to spell out the terms of their deal in more of a clearly defined power dynamic – one where he was in the subservient position – Sam’s instinctual reaction was to become a little more defensive, even though he knew he had no leverage. It was in that instant, however, that Ky’lar had tried to quell whatever doubts he had about this arrangement, the man assuring him that it wasn’t as bad as he thought.
The moment his associate switched gears and pitched him with what was basically a hit job, it was as if there was no trepidation beforehand. In the blink of an eye, Sam’s gaze had shifted into one of impassivity. A few targets? He could definitely handle that.
Nodding a bit at Ky’lar’s final words, he’d consider briefly before replying. “Give me whatever info you got on these targets, and I can get right to it.”
“There are three targets. Once they are… eliminated, we can move on to much larger things.” There was no doubt in the demon’s mind that Sam wouldn’t fulfill his end of the deal. Rather, he was simply taking precautions . for the sake of doing so.
“They all worked together several years ago, but now they’ve all gone their separate ways.” His lips pursed into a thin-line, “Now, each of them have… out-lived their usefulness.” That was one way to put it, but at the same time, it wasn’t the most accurate one. Rather, Ky just wanted to take the three of them out of the picture, and do his own version of damage control later on.
“I should warn you again, my name can’t be attached to this. “ Well, it could be, but it would have possibly just caused more problems. A reason to why he wanted to avoid them if necessary, “Other than that, they should all be at some meeting at a high end hotel. I was going to attend myself, but… I have other matters to attend to.”
shrugging a bit as the demon took his thanks and conceded that he merely did what was agreed upon, he went ahead and grabbed the bag in front of him and moved it off of the bed to bring it over to a nearby table. as he’d turn his back on ky’lar he’d only pay half a mind to what he was saying, figuring that their business was just about done. while he hadn’t forgotten that he had yet to make good on his end… he felt pretty secure in that there probably wouldn’t be any sort of rush in trying to make sure he pulled his weight.
but then, of course, that was where he was mistaken. at least, that seemed to be the case whenever the demon made mention of the fact that he hadn’t done anything to assist him out. not yet, anyway.
blinking once, the hunter would stop what he was doing for a moment before glancing over his shoulder and arching his brows expectantly. ❝ you looking for a favor? ❞ while the delivery of his words were quite sharp, he wasn’t coming onto the guy with any sort of hostility. after all, ky’lar had done him a solid; it was only fair that he did one in return. that was just good business.
“I wouldn’t exactly call it that.” His lips pursed into a thin-line, “A favor would mean that you are doing this due to the fact you owe me. Of course, in this, it’s more that I own you —- don’t think of it as a bad thing, but I can’t be anywhere. Most, they would complain if they were pushed forth with the idea they had to do something that could be… problematic.”
There was a shrug of his shoulders, “I simply need someone who’s willing to take out a few targets…. with my name not attached. ” It wasn’t more that he needed him, but rather, it was more that he was willing to put forth the idea of using the other’s soul against him if the time came to it.
“Once that’s done, we will see where our little partnership goes from there, won’t we?”
the instant the demon had plucked the container from his pocket, displaying it to him with the insistence that he had kept to his word, sam had visibly relaxed, taking a breath before he’d go ahead and put away the gun he had brandished towards the other; one who had now truly proven himself to be an ally.
doing the math quietly that the extended period of no contact was probably a calculated strategy to keep himself off of the horseman’s trail, sam proceeded to drop any sort of reservations he had about the deal. after all, his one and only concern had just been alleviated. so his next words… would be words of thanks.
❝ good, ❞ he’d say in response to the demon’s assuring remarks.
❝ i appreciate the assist. ❞
the demon kept the small container in his hands for a few moments before, slipping it back into his jacket pocket shortly after the other put away the gun. for now, his work had been done, and ky’lar knew that he held up his end of the bargain.
❝ i did what was needed. ❞ rather, he did what he had agreed to, and kept his end of the deal. it was how contracts of a sort worked; he make sure to keep his end of everything and then things worked out well for everyone. well, they usually did at least.
❝ the one after your soul wasn’t turn up any stops —- i was running around the globe to out run them, but…. it’s done. ❞ at least that part,
❝ however, your part of the deal isn’t. ❞ a simple point that the demon was going to put emphasis on to ultimately prove the point that he was the one who had more at play than the soulless hunter.
two weeks had passed, and sam had immersed as much into cover as he possibly could. knowing dean and bobby, he tried not to stick his neck out more than he needed to, only taking care of milk runs for cases instead of going for the long cons, just in the interest of avoiding any other hunters who might’ve potentially been looking for him. he could handle any trouble that came his way, but the grounds of this deceit were too shaky for him to stand comfortably on. after all, he didn’t even get a word from his friendly neighborhood demon. not until two weeks later, when he was just fixing to hit the road.
putting away his things, he was just about to zip everything up until he suddenly felt the other’s presence. however, upon drawing his gun and aiming it in ky’lar’s direction, the man almost immediately relaxed… at least, a little bit. when the demon went on to confirm that he had, in fact, obtained the soul, he narrowed his gaze a bit before insisting,
❝ show me. ❞
he should have expected the gun pointed at him, but instead, he was taken just slightly off guard by the action. true, sam was a hunter — a soulless one even —- and he thought that they had a slight understanding. well, at least an understanding that ky’lar always went through with his deals. not that it mattered too much anymore; being gone for two weeks was simply a way to keep the horseman off his trail.
if given the opportunity, he would have done the exact same thing again, but maybe next time just slightly longer. that way, he would have been sureno one else was picking up his sent, but then again, that would have taken far more motivation than he currently had.
either way, the demon pulled out a small container from his jacket pocket with a grunt, ❝ as promised, your soul is now in my rightful hands, and i’m quite certain no one will attempt to take it from me.❞ even if they tried, they wouldn’t get far, but then again, he doubted anyone would do that… at least anytime soon.
