“You are a fool.” This was not the first time someone wished to try their hand at taking the former herald of Galactus down just to prove themselves. “If I defeat you, YOU will live me alone unlike your grandfather.”
“No deal,” he said, not even bothering to care about the consequences of what he was saying. “I’m not my grandfather. Nor will i ever be.” At least… that was what he hoped. “You won’t defeat me and if you do? It changes nothing.”
“only the strongest can F O R G E fate, to the point that they become it for others who can not.” the great titan paused, scrutinising the humanoid D E M O N who would so humbly and openly admit to a shortcoming, with an impassible look on his rough visage. expert hands could be the weapon’s mould for crafting formidable heights of potential.
“you can learn to bear sentiment like a B U R D E N, but still be able to carry on. if you carry on with your purpose, with the right odds it may just change your fate. you need to become S T R O N G E R, and I do not just mean physically. I am talking about will. about conviction.”
as much as ky wished he could admit to what he was capable of, he couldn’t, and that was due to the fact he didn’t entirely know. yes, he pushed himself, but not far enough. there was always a point where he stopped himself and wouldn’t go no further.
still, it wasn’t like he knew what he was doing in the first place. more importantly, it was all trial and error. eventually, he’d get it right, but as for what it was? ky wasn’t even sure he wanted to go that far – something always held him back. “i end up ignoring things after a while,” he admitted. “just doesn’t always work.”
he sucked in a deep breath and then let it out slowly before speaking again. “will it be really be worth it? to get stronger…to change things.” his eyes closed tightly “to change what i am?”
if there is something that has been true for many ages, that is that the world-eater is weak for B A R G A I N I N G. he could, of course, easily annihilate and wreak destruction; but there is an order to all things, and he was not one to upset it by squashing defenceless bugs simply because they displeased him. as a true force of nature, galactus killed simply to nourish; unless, of course, something posed a real threat to himself, his heralds or the universe itself.
“I WANT YOU TO CEASE PESTERING MY HERALD. YOU UPSET HIM – AND THAT DISTRACTS HIM FROM HIS PURPOSE, WHICH IS TO FIND NOURISHMENT FOR THE MIGHTY GALACTUS.”
the colossal being relaxed his hold on the squirming demon, but did not loosen it enough to allow an escape out of the cage of his gigantic fingers.
“I WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU PURSUE HIM SO. ARE YOU WORKING ON MEPHISTO’S BEHALF? FOR I KNOW HE LUSTS AFTER HIS SOUL.”
“— i don’t,” he sucked in a deep breath as he attempted to calm himself down just a bit to focus. while ky had been in a few of these situations before… it wasn’t like this. nor did he have the feeling that he wasn’t going to get out of this alive.
he had overstepped his boundaries this time and now? well, he knew that he’d have to pay the price sooner or later. ky just thought he had more time. “i don’t,” he repeated again, this time, his voice was a bit smoother. even if he was shaking. “serve him.”
“i don’t know what he wants,” that much was a lie, ky knew some, but not enough to say he knew anything. he wasn’t interested in trying to guess what was on mephisto’s mind and he wasn’t going to put too much effort into it either.
“if you want me to stop? i’ll stop – i just was having some fun.” he wanted to say amusement, but fun was easier to translate from the real feeling. “— don’t judge me on what my grandfather does. i don’t know anything about what he’s after. i haven’t spoken to him in weeks.”
No, it wasn’t what he wanted – not at all, but he had already taunted the other before. Now, he was doing it again, but this time… he knew he was going to ge bit. Ky just hoped he’d be able to come out of it this time alive.
“It doesn’t matter what I want,” he said lowly, trying to conceal his perpetual fear of not just the situation, but of Galactus themselves. “You’re going to do what you will – no matter what I say.”
that seemed to anger the cosmic being more, a terrible brilliance shining from his moon-sized eyes, narrowed in a cutting glare. the grip of his colossal hand tightened around the demon’s squirming form, to T H R E A T E N and harm, but not yet suffocate.
“WHATEVER MANNER OF FOUL ENTERTAINMENT YOU PURSUE, IT HAD BETTER NOT INVOLVE MY HERALD, OR YOU SHALL EXPERIENCE THE WRATH OF THE MIGHTY GALACTUS. AND THEN I WILL COME FOR MEPHISTO!”
he didn’t think of it as lying, but rather not exactly admitting the complete truth. it was what he did often out of pure survival and usually it managed to keep him in one piece. this time… that didn’t seem likely.
“i’m not,” ky managed to get out shortly after the tightening hand started to become quite uncomfortable. “- look,” he honestly didn’t know what else to say at this point. trying to bargain was going to be his last chance to get out of this. even if he knew it would cost him in the long run. “i’m sorry, but – i’m sure there is a way we can both come out of this decently.”
he tried to gulp down that fear of his, but either way? it was still there – right in his tone besides desperation. “i’ll do whatever you want!” a bold statement – even for him, but he never was one to go back on deals… no matter how bad they were. “i swear it!”
❝ Would you like me to describe one to you or simply hold up a mirror so that you may gaze upon yourself? I find that the latter will be much easier for you to understand. ❞
“Do I need to kick your ass? ‘Cause, that is what we’re heading towards.”
“I find that a most curious acquisition, Prince of the Infernal. I had thought such an artifact lost to the shades of time. Pausing, her voice takes on a certain sardonic croak, “How fortunate that you have proven the sages wrong.”
She could not say who the artifact would benefit – perhaps Hell, perhaps the owner itself, but she had some vague idea of what would come of it. Weeping. Weeping in the whole of the Nine Realms, to rival the loss of Baldr. Oh, but where were her manners? Always focusing on the might-bes, never on present company.
“How did you come across it?”
“When you’ve had the… opportunity to travel a few reams,” a pause, “or even dimensions, you come across many amusing things.” He could have named off far more than a dozen, but it truthfully, there was no real point in it. Not When it clearly wasn’t needed to make a point.
“Drop a few names in the right ears and you’ll find a few objects. Most of the time they are worthless, but all the same, sometimes you come across great weapons.” He just hadn’t found the one he was looking for yet – or if he had? He understand how to wield it as of yet.
“So, in truth? It was far more than just luck – I had a bit of help.”
“I want to know why? What will defeating me do for you? Do you wish to possess my soul? Bragging rights– to boast you have defeated the Silver Surfer? I must know what motivates you.”
“I don’t want your soul.” Rather, he didn’t want the anger that would come from his Grandfather over that. So, he would have to settle on something a bit easier to obtain. “Boasting rights for one and for two? I get to see what you’re made of first hand.”
THE platitudes tasted false, lips taking a downward turn underneath his beard. Demons were a wily sort, playing games of the mind and the tongue that Thor had never had the patience to become adept at. Loki had been his point of reference and guide, the experiences the only thing serving to keep him on edge with the hellspawn.
❝ I am Asgardian, I shall live longer than your wretched kind. Most assuredly longer than you, if that was a threat. ❞ Electricity crackled along his fingers and forearms, blindingly blue and white hot, intended to intimidate and serve as a warning.
❝ Unless of course, you are mistaken there too. It would not serve you well to threaten me, now would it? What is your purpose demon, for it is likely not to irritate me? ❞
❝ Promises promises, ❞ he mused lowly. ❝ For all that bark, I fail to see real bite, Asgardian. ❞ While Ky could have gone for name calling, he decided to be above that – something, that felt like the other wasn’t entirely above. No matter, he could work with this either way. It just meant that he had to chose his words a bit more carefully. ❝ I’ve been mistaken many times, but don’t think of it as a threat. ❞ A slight grin begain to spread across his lips. ❝ Instead, think about it as a simple statement – nothing more and nothing less. ❞ Of course, he could have said more, but instead, he decided to take a step forward, and change the subject. ❝ As for why i’m here? Personally, I don’t believe you’re truly worthy of that information. ❞
“Let. Me. Go.” This time, his words were just a bit more forceful as he squirmed a bit in Galactus‘s grasp. He knew this wasn’t something he could just talk his way out of, but all the same, he was going to try. At least until he started issuing threats, but even Ky knew they wouldn’t help him in this situation. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he whined as he tried to kick the other ( even though he knew it wouldn’t have much affect – if any at all against the other. ). “can’t I have a bit of fun?”
