his words only brought out a scoff; she didn’t expect anything else. most of the demons, or half ones she knew, while talked big, usually went for a much smaller prey. humans, typically, and thus, this wasn’t much of a surprise. if he wished to leave her presence, he wasn’t tied down and was free to do so, but if he insisted on continuing to poke her with a dumb needle, humans or not — the audience never stopped from making herself clear without using her tongue.
❛ honey —— – i am everyone’s type. ❜ the spoken words had arrogance within them, and an unmistakable hint of ire, too. ❛ if you want to run, just run. no need to hurt a girl’s feelings. daddy never taught you how to treat a lady ? ❜
humans were so much easier to work with. at least they folded after a few vague threats. they even were fun in their own way, but they never were enough to satisfy him. maybe that was why he always tried to go after much greater things – sometimes he came out of it alive, but others? not so much.
❛ dear ol’ dad never taught me anything an’ i highly doubt that you are. ❜ even if she was, ky wasn’t about to test it – not at the moment at least. ❛ either way? consider it advancing in another direction. ‘specially since you don’t want me around. ❜
“REST assured that I trust no one.” It’s true; she was not a master at espionage for nothing. She’d seen too many agents fail, sometimes fatally, because they dared to trust someone who had turned out to be the wrong person. But, just to match the sarcasm in his voice, she added: “Least of all someone like you.”
“See, now you’re playing it smart,” he said, sarcasm fading with-in moments. “Trusting anyone is a mistake. Especially when you take into account someone like myself.” If he had the choice to trust himself, he wouldn’t – Ky always enjoyed changing sides or not even picking one, but one thing was always clear with him. He served himself.
“I’M certain you’re not the first one to be unarmed with knowledge,” she replied, crossing her arms. “What size drops are we talking about, though? Large ones? Or small? Those two would, of course, fill the cup in an entirely different way.”
She was guiding the conversation, certainly, all whilst avoiding telling him her name. She was no ‘master of espionage’ for no reason, after all. Everything she did was guided, calculated, planned-out; in this conversation, as with every other simple, introductory conversation she ever had, Peggy was evaluating the situation, all to decide whether or not she’d divulge her own name, or if she’d prefer to leave the other participant unfulfilled.
“Small, just enough to be noticeable, but not enough to do anything about it.” Maybe it was a bit more than that, Ky knew where to start, but anything more, and he was in the dark. Last time he went down one of the more… easier leads he found himself in position that changed his life.
So, he knew that looking into this shit, and even his own past wasn’t something he should do now or ever. Though, when did that ever stop him? Especially the last few years – truth be told, it didn’t, but he still was far more than a little uneasy when he went down routes that could be potentially problematic. “Think of it as a few last drops of expensive Whiskey. As much as you want it… you know it won’t amount to anything. Maybe a small taste, but nothing more.” A pause. “Even so, in my case, those drops could ultimately lead to a flood gate, but what’s on the other side of it? Well, that’s up for… debate.”
brows furrow , hands folded across your chest . ❛ no . ❜
“ you’d rather i steal it then?” it wouldn’t be too hard, but ky was trying to make this as legal as possible. “’cause, that could be arranged.”
Unwilling or otherwise… Ky enjoyed having an audience. He could have taken some humans, but why waste such a good opportunity? No, he’d make sure to take the unworthy one.
The same one he wanted to rip apart. True, Thor was amusing at worst and talented at best, but if anyone was going to end the Thunderer? Well, it would be himself – even if fate managed to say otherwise.
“Don’t you know?” he asked, grin spreading across his lips. “See, I thought we could talk.”No, Ky wanted to boast – even if he wouldn’t admit it. “You’re not going to be worthy anytime soon – neither will i.” his hands slipped in his pockets. “However, i was thinking we could make a little… deal of sorts.” A lie, it wasn’t a deal – it was more of attempting to force the unworthy one to agree. “You help me with my problem and i’m sure i’ll find a way to help you with… your own.”
HE KNEW SAYING THESE THINGS WOULD fall on deaf ears, but ross felt better for saying them. however, the finger that poked him squarely in the chest was gripped and twisted away from his person. the man didn’t let up. “fully human or not, there is more than one species in this galaxy. i’d say ask the guardians but they’re pretty much all gone. whether you’re human or not, you reside in this universe therefore you are effected. it’s your war.” with the utterance of his last word, ross releases ky’s hand and straights himself out. “fuck off for all i care. but if you come crawling back, needed help, you won’t find it with me.”
ROSS WAS RIGHT. this war was his own – far more than he realized and it was a chance to do some good for once. though, ky wasn’t in the mood to actually attempt it or even do so. why make anything right when the world – no universe just needed to be tipped a bit further down into chaos. part of him knew it was wrong to do so, but at the same time? he just didn’t care – not when he firmly believed that his involvement wasn’t needed one way or another. “not my war,” he affirmed bluntly. “i didn’t start it and i wasn’t involved. ” it was like he was a broken record – either way? he was done trying to justify himself or his actions. at least to him. “human or otherwise? i’m not going to pick up the pieces when i never was wanted in this universe to begin with.”
A small frown formed on Loki’s face as he listened to the other. Could it be that he was who the god of mischief through he was? It all added more confusion to the whole situation, making Loki, if anything, raise his guard even more, but at the same time he remained in his spot, deciding to engage a fight only if needed.
“I have to admit, I imagined Lady Death to look a lot different than you.” He finally spoke. Naturally, he could have been wrong, but in every tale Frigga would tell his brother and him, it was Lady Death who came to the surviving warriors and offer them to bring one of their loved ones back in exchange for their own life. “What makes you think people here are desperate enough to do so while the Avengers still stand and there is hope that all of this can be reversed?”
“Humans are… complicated, but if you wave an offer in their face that is good enough? They will be begging for the chance.” He’d seen it first hand – even in history, when the idea of Absolution was so grand a thing… people took it in droves.
In this case, Ky was making deals – not a lot of them, but just enough so he could head back home with something more than begging to be forgiven for leaving. Something that hopefully would state his family’s anger. “I don’t know about Lady Death, but I know how people will beg for second chances, and will even trade their lives for others.” A deep sigh escaped his lips. “It may be reversed, but for now? Giving people some sort of…hope is better than nothing.”
“Ah. and that’s why you came to me.” Natasha rolled her eyes. “I have taken lives before, but never needlessly and never without great care.” Her voice was hard and cold, like ice in summer refusing to melt. “I’m not going to help you. That’s final.” And now that she knew he planned to be reckless she’d notify the Avengers about his request.
ky always had a back up plan of sorts; even if she didn’t agree to this… he’d find a way to do it. however, he doubted that it would actually go smoothly. no matter – he wasn’t going to force her. not this time at least. “as i said, no one will get hurt,” he left off that little note about things going well this time as he took a few steps back, “either way? do try to stay out of my way. i do have places to be, and work… to do.”
at the last moment, ky was about to issue a threat – one he’d regret, but instead, he just turned around with a shrug. “do try to keep alive – i have a feeling we’ll end up seeing more of each other soon enough.”
He felt a visceral hatred growing in his gut and knew himself well enough to recognise it for what it was: fear. The brand of alarm that sees steady hands quake, that softens the hardest of resolves with its panic-inducing effects. Thor was jittery, and knew not why such was the case– he only knew that he needed to act, and soon at that. Be it by taking part in a bout of training or using Stormbreaker’s Bifrost properties to teleport himself to a far region of space.
Someplace where, with luck, an aggrieved lightningslinger may muster the full wrath of his element without consequence.
“You know not of that which you claim to speak of, demon.” A rebuttal that could be condensed into far fewer terms; drop the subject. Caught in an uncharacteristically negative mood, the god’s jaws were parted enough to afford him a near constant scowl, ill at ease until he has the opportunity to give vent to the apprehension that has claimed him so strongly. “And on the very same matter, I wish to hear no more of it.” Least they repeat what he’d heard a thousand times since the battle for Wakanda took place; he bungled a prime opportunity, and in his failure, allowed for trillions throughout the known universe to be erased from existence.
Ky knew fully well what Thor meant. Everything had gone downhill since Thanos and now? Whoever was left ended up picking up the peaces. Ky should have just turned tail and gone home – maybe then he could go back to some sense of reasonability. He may have hated his family, but at least they were… predictable.
“Then let’s go somewhere.” Ky knew that he’d have to elaborate to the extent of what exactly he meant, but he wasn’t going to. It would call become clear soon enough. “Somewhere far away from here,” he said, taking a step closer. “It will do us both some good.” Or, in other words, it would get both them away from everyone. True, it might not have been much, but maybe training, fighting, or just being away from earth would do the both of them better than just sticking around here.
“And what the FUCK makes you think you can decide when this is over, huh?” she growled, LUNGING forward to the same man she had chosen to move in with only weeks earlier. Now she was SHOVING hard against his chest to get him AWAY – which was relatively SOFT compared to what she could ACTUALLY do to him.
“GET OUT! It’s over!”
and there it was – that SPARK he enjoyed so much. he felt he could DECIDE as he always had to be the one in CONTROL. sadly enough, that wasn’t the case – a reason to why he smirked as she SHOVED him back. truth be told, he expected her to do something worse, but then again, he could have done the exact same thing. if he wished. for the moment, however, he was CONTENT with not lifting a finger – that way, he wouldn’t do anything he’d regret down the line.
“you seem to FORGET who i am, but fine,” he said, grin pulling at his lips. “i’ll leave – won’t even put up a fight.” of course, what he could do was BURN the place down, but he’d get to that… eventually. “but when the time comes? you’ll REGRET this.”
