“Your assumptions prove to be correct at the moment, unless you convince me otherwise.” Jasper’s eyes locked onto the being with a steady alertness, his body shifting a little more upright. He could feel a conflict brewing already, and he honestly couldn’t say that he wanted it prevented. There was just too much wrong with this…
“Is a name too much to ask of you? Or should I go by what I see .” He interrogated, arms crossed with a suspicious glare.
“Well, that would depend on what you see.” Ky personally didn’t think his presence here was a bad thing, but he always knew that stepping on toes was inevitable. Even more so these days.
Still, he was going to attempt to be nice ( even if he knew it would fall flat in all reality ). “It’s Ky’lar.” He could have said more – maybe even given an Alias, but he wasn’t in the mood to deal with that. Not yet at least.
FACE WRINKLES INTO MORE OF A SCOWL ! He’s already decided this guy is annoying. But, quick as a flash, he’s smiling, playing up his innocence as best he can. “Is tha’ so ?” He’s backing up as he speaks. “That’s real reassurin’ ta’ hear, boy. If y’ain’t got business shootin’ me, then I reckon I’ll jus’ be on my way —-”
“ACTUALLY,” he said, taking a step closer, “i was thinking of ripping you apart… piece by piece.” while his tone was quite serious ( at least for the moment ), as a grin quickly spread across his features. “it could be fun.” the only problem with that was it would mean far too much effort on his part and possibly causing. “or, we can talk about some real business with all threats off the table.”
❝ you ever considered workin’ outta someplace that doesn’t scream GENERIC BADDIE you’d get more visitors. ❞
clint barton WASN’T snooping — he happened to be there, alright? [ it was his defense, and he’d stick to it ] he’d been in the NEIGHBORHOOD following a local dealer who’d been peddling his wares too close to clint’s home, and he’d spotted the place, and pegged it as the kind where PROBLEMS came from [ and so he’d jimmied the window open ] it’d been right where he’d lost the dealer, it made SENSE.
❝ i’m just lookin’ for WALT, ‘right? if he’s not here, i don’t need to be. ❞
the only reason ky was here in the first place was due to the fact he was looking for answers. he’d been down this path before and the problem was each time things got worse – much worse actually. this time, the only reason he was following the same trail again was due to the fact it was easier to put his mind towards something constructive than to go back to his usual amount violence.
❝ have you ever considered not being annoying? ❞
a simple question. one that ky didn’t expect an answer to, but all the same, he knew it had to be ultimately be asked. after-all, while they might have been looking for someone – that didn’t mean ky couldn’t use them… even if it would backfire in their own face eventually.
❝ — an’ i never heard of a walt – sounds like some sort of dance. ❞
The offer to duel– to the death, most likely– had been exchanged between them both so often that its mention nowadays hardly triggered a reaction from the blond. No concern nor outrage bloomed in the moments after its airing; what prevailed was a species of muted disappointment, chagrined to see Ky stuck tightly to old ways and habits.
“…No, not this time. I refuse to fight you.”
“- what?” he couldn’t believe what he was hearing; couldn’t believe he’d been denied this request of his. “did i hear that right?” of course he did, but ky had to make sure ( if only for his own ego ). “you refuse to fight me?” it seemed a bit surreal, but still – he wasn’t going to let that stop him. “am i not good enough anymore?” truth be told, he could have gone into more detail about the why, but what was the point? he was more in disbelief that thor wouldn’t fight him than anything else.“or are you finally realizing i’ll win every single time?”
“— you do it,” he said, defiance in every single symbol of each word he spoke. he didn’t take advice, orders, or even suggestions well. “maybe then you’ll get the result you want.”
“an’ here i thought we got along so well!” his voice was clear sarcasm as he slipped his hands into his pockets. “but, for the record? no one should trust me. least of all someone like you.”
That opinion was debatable. How many people would consider this action foolish? This sudden despair that had taken over him due to LOSING someone who meant such a great deal to him? No one would understand. Perhaps Thor would since he experienced similar with Loki. How was someone supposed to deal with the loss of someone important – not once but twice? It was enough to many anyone lose their minds. It was a pain that few would ever manage to endure – and Steve was not one of those people. Seeing Bucky fall from that train all those decades ago had already been devastating., let alone watching him turn to dust before his very eyes. It was more than anyone could endure. It was more than HE could endure.
So what if his despair made him be selfish? Just this one time – he could be selfish. This… ONE time.
Others would scream at him and call him stupid. They would argue that they could have found another way to bring Bucky and the others back. There was always a way – and no one would give up until they found it. But that was then and this was now. Without Bucky, Steve knew he wouldn’t be able to keep moving forward and if that meant making a deal with the devil? Then so be it. Even if the price to pay would be Bucky getting his memory wiped or even his own memory wiped… at least he would know he was ok. Whatever the price the demon would request for his services, Steve knew he would pay. For it was worth anything – and he was a man of his word.
“Just… do it. Please.”
When Ky had been asked before to make deals, there was always a pure selfish reason involved. From crawling out of debt, to even keeping a family member alive – everything came with some sort of price tag attached. Sometimes, people didn’t want to pay up, and that was what lead to complications.
Ky didn’t care if people paid, but his family did, and it was why he avoided deals. Well, avoided them unless he absolutely had to make them. Oddly enough, he was great at making deals, but very bad at collecting them the normal way.
He didn’t want anything more than ( usually ) one simple favor – one that could be used at any-time for anything. That way, when the time came, he could do what was needed, and claim his rightful place. Even if Ky knew it might not ever happen… he was still willing to put everything on the line to at least try.
“By the end of the hour,” he said bluntly. “Bucky will be back – All he’ll remember is waking up, and now nothing about his former final moments.” It could have been done sooner, but an hour was easier. It gave him time to do what was needed and hide it for at least a few weeks. That way no one would find out ( right away that is ) what he’d done.
“Aww now you’re just making me feel special, how sweet of you to single me out.” She crosses her arms in-front of her chest and lets out a small huff. “More like you are going to have to deal with me, mr.look at me i’m dark and scary.”
“yeah, bright colors don’t suit me that well, an’ i deal with enough red back home.” there was a shrug. “suits work, but after wearing them for years a nice leather jacket an’ pants are just so much easier to work with.” he took a step closer towards her. “so, how do you want me to deal with you? i have a few… idea’s on my mind already.”
“to be quite fair? if people would stay out of my way – specifically you -, i do believe there wouldn’t be trouble, but here we are.” he gave a shrug. “i guess you could say… you need to deal with it.”
“I DO believe you miss my point, stranger. One might need to learn the rules to survive – but one might also need to understand that sometimes, those ‘sacrifices’ are the ignoring rules themselves. After all, such things were made to be broken.”
“there is NOTHING to break if you don’t care to follow the rules to begin with.” maybe he shouldn’t have brought up the point, but at the same time? he really didn’t care. “even better if you don’t KNOW them.” a pause. “all the same? the names ky’lar.”
