❝ not that i don’t love new recruits, ❞ billy starts, standing in the doorway to his office at anvil. his arms are crossed over his chest, a small frown on his face. because his life is about order, and unexpected visitors are not welcome to his routine. ❝ but who the hell are you? and what the hell do you want? ❞
❝ it’s richardson. ❞ he wasn’t about to use his full name. not here, not where it would be so easy to dig up his past in a matter of minutes, but all the same, he needed something to keep people at bay. a name, a title to hide behind, even something so small as a job would be enough leverage to get people off his back.
though, he highly doubted that it would be easy. let alone with his history ( recent and otherwise ), ❝ and i’ve been told you’ve been looking for a few good men.❞ he took in a deep breath before letting it out slowly, ❝ or… man at any-rate. ❞ even if the term ‘man’ didn’t very well apply to him on most days.
she’s tempted and it’s kind of unfair really. there had to be a c a t c h in there somewhere. eyes narrowed at him, trying to figure out what it was. not for long though because it doesn’t matter. two less bottles she has to pay for. “fine. none of the cheap shit or the deal’s off.” she’s not the type to drink those fruity little cocktails.
“do you really think that i would go for the cheep shit?” he always bought the best. not due to the fact it tasted better, but due to the fact that he personally c o u l d. it wasn’t the ability that he could obtain the best, but rather, it was the reasoning that he could get it simply due to the fact of his ‘privilege’. though, the truth of that was simply up for debate, “we’ll get the best money can buy…. this side of the Atlantic.”
“Everyone is fond of their city until they see it in ruins.” Of course, Ky wasn’t exactly planning on burning it down. Maybe a fire or two, but destroying a city took effort, and that was the one kind he didn’t truly have at the moment, “’Course, I doubt it would be me. Not exactly too interested in getting into a fight that would be taxing.”
“ I thought you would be able to give me more options than the one’s I have already. “ She might not have been able to fix every single problem, but he was hoping that she could give a gesture in the right direction. Even that would suffice for the moment, “I can’t keep running forever and I can’t simply fight it either.”
“Am I missing something here?” He was trying his best to not to look at this man as though he was staring, but he knew him from somewhere, he was sure of it.
“—- Besides my charming looks and personality?” A grin pulled on the Ky’lar’s lips as he slipped his hands into the pockets of his jacket, “I’d say not much.”
“ i would dare to disagree, but it is up to you how you define yourself. none of my business. ”
it was perhaps one of the most honest things she had ever said, eyes turned to her hand, picking at her nails as the man kept speaking. whilst appearing borderline disinterested, satana listened to EVERY word. every piece of information he shared could be valuable, a little later, but she was not about to reveal that she’s fishing and waiting for more.
“ perhaps it’s time to break the leash, and take what’s rightfully yours. ”
slowly, she had begun to shift the conversation. why? because having these old demons and others alike ( including her own father ) sit on their THRONES was not useful for her at all. they knew what they were doing, they knew her and her misdemeanors. while it wasn’t entirely impossible to get rid of them, she didn’t mind someone else doing it for her, would they do it knowingly or not. satana didn’t want to underestimate the other too soon, when she knew so little about him, but if he were to step in and replace those who were in charge now, she guessed it would be easier to push him out. appear with clean hands. as a savior, or whatever else of sorts.
“ say what you want, but it could use a little fresh blood. ”
“Fresh blood is needed everywhere, but that isn’t what is needed now. If I was to take anything, it would just be another step towards eternal damnation.”
Not that it mattered too much. Ky already knew there was no way of escaping anything he was bound to, but at the same time, he was at least attempting to be optimistic about the situation.
“‘Sides, i’d rather not risk a full blown war…. again.”
More to the point, Ky wasn’t willing to take full steps against either his Father or Grandfather. He already went through that once and wasn’t about to attempt that again. Well, not anytime soon at least.
“Or having to spend a few hundred years Earth years there. They don’t take too kindly when you start talking about what is rightfully your own. Just ends up into loads of arguments and torture.”
❝Trust me, fire doesn’t bother me, in the least. And what’s supposed to make you a ‘big deal’?❞
❝ Doesn’t it now? ❞ A faint chuckle escaped his lips, ❝ An’ I thought someone like you would be terrified of a slight amount of heat. ❞ He was being deeply sarcastic, but that was besides the point, ❝ ‘Course, i’ve been wrong before, an’ you’ll have to wait an’ see. ❞
❝ yeah i guess a few parties makes anything bearable. ❞ his words are mostly sarcastic, but if there was some comfort ky’lar derived from it, it’s something. you gotta find whatever gets you through. ❝ reality sucks. i mean, i guess i don’t have it so bad, but the thought of being a mutant is a lot different from actually BEING a mutant. people are awful. ❞
❝ true, but there wasn’t really a choice in anything back then. if i kept to myself and out of trouble, they didn’t care what i did. ❞ more to the point, it let ky get away with worse than simply a few ‘accidental’ fires, but that was besides the point, ❝ well, usually, but maybe it would have been better to know. at least it would have been easier to deal with when it call came crashing down around me.” ❞
“you’re
not listening
to me.” in all honesty, he felt like he was banging his head
against the wall with this kid. it didn’t matter if he couldn’t go
with him. he had no real choice in the matter. if he didn’t come
along with him now shield would send someone after him, and that
someone wouldn’t be as understanding as he was. steve was trying to
get that through to him but he couldn’t help but think that this kid
didn’t care one way or another. which meant it was time to just walk
away and let shield handle this. they had special teams for a reason.
a
part of him just hated the thought of this kid being hunted when he’d
offered him the chance to come peacefully. why would anyone throw
away his offer? he knew there was more to this kid than he was
telling and if it was that that kept him from coming with him then he
needed to find that out before their special squad was sent out. “i
get not trusting
shield. but me? i’m just doing a job, kid. they’ll come after you no
matter what. i’m willing to listen. they won’t be.”
“then they will come after me.” ky said bluntly. he already had the assumption that they would and this simply confirmed it. after-all, from what he knew of shield, they wouldn’t simply ask questions, and he didn’t like being watched. let alone tracked or restricted to where he could go.
a reason to why he knew that eventually, he would be cornered, and a choice would have to be made. a choice, that he wasn’t ready to even think about, “’course, all that i hear is that shield will come after me either way, an’ i have enough problems.” more to the point, he didn’t want to deal with them anytime soon. yet, if push came to shove, he would have to.
“so, you can keep on doing your job,” ky said.“you can do it with out taking me in.”
“It might be easier. Doesn’t make it right. I could never side with a tyrant.” Ironic, considering the fact that many viewed Odin as a tyrant. But Sif didn’t see it that way. Good was good, even if it was harder. Sif might not be good all the time, but that didn’t mean she wanted to be bad.
“Everyone justifies their actions in their head. Believes they’re doing the right thing. And for them, it could be. For someone else…maybe not so much.” It was all a point of view, really. She was evil to those she killed, to her enemies. But was she evil to herself? She thought she was protecting Asgard, but was she just hurting people?
Not questions for her. Things like that didn’t interest her. She was nothing if not simple. She did have some mortality, though, a decent sense of right and wrong. Though some days those terms seemed very childish. “No? Sometimes I don’t think I am either. But I try to do what’s right. Mostly.”
“Perspective. but what is really ‘right’ these days?” It was a question that he knew that anyone would have several answers to. A reason to why he didn’t want to get too deep into the subject, but knew there was no avoiding it. Well, not in his mind at least.
“Live long enough and it’s either the lesser evil or the one that is worse. Either way? It doesn’t matter.” Not to him, “Eventually, someone will say they are doing the right thing, and another will say they aren’t.”
Honestly, he could have gone on all day about this, “Suffice to say, I don’t ever think anything i’ve fought for has been right. It’s just been whatever is needed or what i’ve personally wanted.”
