“Then turn to your reasons
for creating conflict. ‘Tis your choice to
start another war,
not ours. We…”
“My
prince. Your brother wishes to see him.”
It
was rare for Heimdall to interrupt him, much less relay a message from Loki. It
was those two things that gave him pause, and he glanced at Heimdall to make
sure that he hadn’t hallucinated the
interruption. Upon seeing that nod, he exhaled loudly. If there was one person,
besides his parents, who he tended to trust, it was his brother. If Loki wanted
to see their ‘guest’, then he would. Thor was aware that his brother knew
certain things he didn’t, so he was willing to defer to him when necessary.
“It appears someone has
decided to vouch for you. It would
benefit you
greatly not to
waste the opportunity.”
He
lowered his warhammer to his side just as the sound of hooves echoed behind
him. Two horses had arrived, one his war horse. The other was clearly for their
guest. According to Heimdall, Loki was waiting for them in their mother’s
garden.
Starting a war wasn’t his prerogative. Ending one before it began was. Whoever died in the aftermath of his actions wasn’t his concern. All that mattered to him was the end goal; one where he’d come out on top and damn the consequences.
An eyebrow was raised at Heimdall’s voice; an unexpected surprise in two parts. Ky knew coming here would raise the attention of… many individuals. Asgard wasn’t a place anyone would tread lightly at, but he’d used his last favor to get here.
Ultimately, he’d take anything he could get. The price didn’t matter to him, but hearing that someone could vouch for him was a change of plans. One, that he’d have to go through carefully… if only so he wouldn’t end up being put in a cell or sent to some world at the edge of known existence.
“So it seems.”
Ky wouldn’t say it was unexpected. It wasn’t – at least not entirely. What was, however, was that it seemed that someone – Thor’s brother – in-fact was willing to vouch specifically for him. That turn of events made things far more interesting.
“For the record, I never waste an opportunity. Not even if the odds are clearly stacked against me.”
He might have been persuasive but not clever enough, in Thor’s opinion. Why was he depicting himself as someone who shouldn’t be allowed inside Asgard? Then again, maybe that was a good thing. It certainly made his job of driving the stranger out easier than he anticipated. In his mind, he fully believed that he could defeat anyone who threatened either him or his people.
While his brother would have cautioned him against underestimating someone by their looks alone, he tended to rely more on brute force to determine whether someone could easily be bested or not. And from the stranger’s thin, scrawny appearance, any fight between them would last only a few seconds.
“Then it is a mistake I shan’t make. Leave.”
Maybe he should THANK the man for being so forthcoming with his true persona. The thought of letting someone like him into Asgard no longer sat well with him, and now, he saw no reason to continue the conversation and to give the stranger any space to move forward.
“It’s not as simple as that.”
Actually, it was. Ky could have took his leave right then and never looked back. It would have put a major damper on his plans – even to the point where he’d have been set back for months or even years, but it wasn’t the first time it had happened. Nor, did he truly believe it would be the last.
However, he wasn’t going to let that happen this time around; if this didn’t work, he’d have only a few options left. One, would be a straight up idiotic idea, and the next would simply be to submit. Both options, for the moment were not appealing, and it was why he wanted to create a third or even forth.
“Or, maybe it is, but I didn’t think Asgardians were willing to throw anyone into a needless slaughter.”
The very mention of a family member had him pause. Thor couldn’t think of anyone in his family who would align themselves with a demon. His parents wouldn’t be so reckless, and his brother might have considered dabbling with darker magic, but he was confident that Loki wouldn’t betray them like that. He was about to dismiss that claim when he caught Heimdall’s eye, and the slight downwards dip of the head told him that he shouldn’t take the stranger’s words lightly.
“And who would willingly choose your side? You spoke of bringing harm to my people in search of this relic. Why should I trust the word of one who brings potential death to my people?”
He might not have seen the point in continuing this conversation, but there was something in the stranger’s words that made him curious. He wanted to know WHO the stranger was referring to. He’d heard of threats coming from within, but the possibility of that threat coming from his family was something he hadn’t expected. Thor might have ignored that bluff if he hadn’t had thought of how Loki tended to align himself with morally grey characters. He hated himself for doubting his brother, but he needed to be sure.
“you shouldn’t. no one should.”
ky’lar wasn’t going to give into lies. doing so would have lead to more questions and the possibility of landing himself in a cell. he used every single possible resource to get here; to actually step forth on a place that was known as myth. not that it mattered now, this conversation was getting… nowhere in his mind, and it was why he had to up the stakes. at least slightly.
“trusting me is mistake.”
one that no one would soon forget. a reason to why he was making sure thor knew exactly who he was dealing with. not out of intimidation, but rather out of the safety of others. he may have thought himself above such petty things as morality, but addressing the facts was in everyone’s best interests. including his own.
“however, if given the chance… i can be quite persuasive.”
among other things, but he wasn’t about to say that now. not when he knew there was a very high likely chance that he would be dumped on a random planet. or worse… sent back home. all the same, he knew there was no avoiding it. not now at least.
Those words provided little comfort, and
Thor would have to refuse this stranger entry. From Heimdall’s stance, it was
clear that he felt the same way. The relics in the vault were closely guarded,
and the Allfather would most likely refuse his request. Besides, Thor had learned
about each relic by heart, and he hadn’t heard of anything that could be used
against demons. The Casket of Ancient Winters was a formidable weapon, but
unless the demon had no ice or fire capabilities, it would prove useless.
“There are no relics here that
wield the power you speak
of. And if there were…we
would not hand them over to
you so lightly.”
The strength of Asgard was difficult to
overcome. Thor knew that for certain. But he also knew that he shouldn’t
underestimate this man. Whoever he was, he had enough knowledge to access the
Bifrost and search for the relics there. Holding his hand out, he felt the
sudden rush as Mjolnir hurtled
through the air, sliding into his grasp. It was a veiled warning not to pursue
that path any longer.
“I believe it is time for you
to depart.”
He could, of course, use the library to search for that elusive relic, but his earlier words – I’m willing to do whatever’s needed to obtain it – had given the impression that he would do the Asgardians harm. And that was something Thor would never allow to happen.
There was no doubt in his mind that this was starting to turn sour. Ky could already feel it down in his toes that he wasn’t going to get anything out of this last-ditch effort. If Asgard wouldn’t at least let him obtain a weapon ( even temporarily ) or even get information? What choice did he really have left to get rid of his little… nuisance.
A deep breath was taken in and then let out slowly as the other’s words confirmed his suspicions; he wasn’t going to be able to do what he wanted. Not to say the option wasn’t expected. It was, but…. he had hoped that it could have been avoided.
“It’s more so borrowing.”
Even has Mjolnir came to be in the other’s grasp, the Demon knew that he had to keep his resolve on the task at hand. If anything, he had to keep his focus, and not let his mind wander on possibilities…. especially on what what ‘if’s’ of the situation.
A deep breath was taken in and then let out slowly; his words had to be focused, to the point, and not where they could be taken at base value. Even though it was already clear to Ky that his little ‘risk’ for coming here wasn’t going to pay off.
“Of a sort.”
However, he had one slight trick up his sleeve that he was hesitant to use, a reason to why he made sure to fold his arms calmly behind his back as he spoke again.
“If you don’t have anything here, i’m sure that something, or someone could point me in the right direction.”
It was a risk, a major one to even suggest such a thing, but he was doing so out of necessity… rather than want. Not to mention that if he had been younger, he would have had loads of questions for the one before him — even more for whoever he could speak with, but that was ultimately besides the point. Not to mention either here nor there.
“Especially since this is more so of an urgent matter. Even more so if… other family members get involved and decide to ultimately chose sides.”
His lips pursed into a thin-line after his words; it was part lie and part truth, but hopefully… if he made things sound more urgent things would start turning his way. Of course, on the other hand it could have made things much worse, but that was a risk he was willing to take.
He didn’t respond. Not
right away. Instead, he turned to Heimdall, whose eyes were narrowed. The
Gatekeeper saw all, and Thor wanted to know if they could trust this one. He
had lived long enough to know that not all demons were evil and not all ‘heroes’
were noble. What mattered wasn’t his species, but his heart. Did he carry some
dark purpose or was his curiosity more academic? Loki once had more of the
latter as a child.
A curious boy who devoured
information in the library and was eager to learn more about the relics in the
vault. In the end, Loki turned against the Aesir, and he couldn’t blame his
adoptive brother. If a family member could
use that knowledge against them, it would be difficult to judge a stranger’s
character.
Heimdall met his gaze and
subtly shook his head. Whatever the Gatekeeper knew, he wasn’t keen on
divulging. Yet.
“Elaborate. On both weapon and dilemma.”
Thor was usually respectful
of a person’s private life, but when it involved a weapon, he wasn’t as giving. For all he knew, the stranger could be
planning to use the weapon against them, and he wasn’t going to put his people
in danger just to appear friendly.
Nor was he going to step aside until his questions were answered.
❝ Honestly? I don’t even know what i’m looking for. ❞
That much was a lie, Ky’lar knew exactly what he was looking for, but the problem was he didn’t even know if it existed for what he wanted. If it did, there would no doubt be a resolution to this little ‘situation’ he was in, but for now, he would say what was needed, and go on from there.
❝ —— I know that it should exist here, and if it does? I’m willing to do whatever’s needed to obtain it. ❞
Less of starting an incident that no doubt would happen either way —- the moment anyone else found him here would do more than just raise eyebrows. A reason to why he wanted to explain everything later — maybe that way he could at least not seem like someone who just wanted to commit parricide due to what many could call foolish reasons.
❝ Either way, my problem is a bit more complicated than most would think. ❞
A reason to why Ky’lar moved to scratch the back of his neck for a few moments — anything to try to ease him into explaining everything that would no doubt become a bit awkward in the long run.
❝ I need something that will take care of a very powerful demon. Well, with out getting myself bound to some other reality for the next thousand or so years. ❞
“Don’t make promises you have no plans of keeping.”
A part of her could understand why he escaped. Her brother preferred the human realm over Hell, and she was there because she wanted to relax. Had a human been the one to wander into her home, she would have thrown him or her out. But this one was different. A Prince of Hell, based on what she was told.
Belladonna knew of him, but she hadn’t met him before. Thus, her offer was far more gracious than usual.
“This wouldn’t be a sanctuary if I forced you to leave before you were ready.”
he wanted to say that he always kept his promises, but that would have been a lie; the only thing he didn’t break were his deals. even then, there was a chance that they would be problem if the situation called for it, and that was why he kept himself silenced on that matter.
at least for the moment at hand as he would deal with it when the time ever came.
❝ no, it wouldn’t be. a reason to why i only plan to stay a few hours… nothing more. ❞
he wished he could be accurate for how long; if it was up to him, ky would have somewhere where he could relax completely, but he didn’t feel like getting dragged back right then.
The man’s answer may have been simple, but it wasn’t specific enough. An enemy could have been looking for ways to enter the Eternal Realm. Until a clear line of friend or foe had been established, Thor wouldn’t completely trust him. He’d dealt with his brother often enough to know a few ways to tell when someone was lying ( not that these always worked ), so he wasn’t fooled easily.
Heimdall took a few steps forward, pausing only when Thor raised his hand to keep him from going any further. Though they were both wary, they didn’t need to scare him off either.
However, a part of him felt that demons weren’t easy to scare.
that much was true, there were many things that were able to be searched for, but only one was what he was interested in. by most standards, it wasn’t much, but the crime he was going to commit was great — greater than most would even like to admit when dealing with most human standards at least. though, he doubted that it mattered now —- he barely considered himself human… even on good days.
however, he stood his ground : for now, there was no reason for him to back down — if they wanted to know specifics, he would give them as needed, but not entirely. ky’lar knew that even coming here was dangerous —- even more so since he chose to come not just in secrecy, but also alone.
❝ true. what i’m looking for some sort of weapon i can only find here. ❞
rather, it was more that he assumed that he could find some sort of weapon there that could help the demon get rid of his father. in truth, it wasn’t much, but it was a start —- in truth one that he hoped would be able to work in his favor.
