“ i never respect my elders, ” she is quick to point out, knowing that most of her elders tortured her or forced her onto stupid missions that worked for the bad guys. elders were overrated. “ i’m going home. obviously. ” jessica takes another step towards him in order to show that she was not afraid. that, in fact, he needed to be afraid of her. “ so, you should get out of my way. ”
“you’ll have to eventually.” that was just how the real-world worked. he could have gone on about it, but instead, he gave a shrug in return. no, he wasn’t going to do anything stupid – well, more so than usually. “see, i could get out of your way or… we could talk.” he took a step closer in return – his own way of raising the stakes – “i believe… the move is,” a pause, “how do they say it these days? oh, right – yours.”
“ isn’t it a little early for creeps to be out? ” she questions almost immediately, unable to really hold herself back. jessica was the type of person who reacted on instinct and right now was no different. words slipped out faster than she could stop them and already she could herself regretting it. maybe antagonizing the creep wasn’t a very good idea. “ there something you need? ”
“ isn’t it a little early to be rude to your elders? ” honestly, he didn’t care about her attitude. in-fact, he could have replied with something deeply sarcastic – well, more than usual. the only problem was he wasn’t in the mood to waste that much energy. not now. “in my day,” he said, hands slipping into his pockets. “ we were at least somewhat decent. ” a faint smirk pulled at his lips. “ as for what i need? nothing much. just avoiding family. you? ”
she was leaving school a little late, forced to stay behind for detention since she cut school like five times last week. most students were gone and the area was empty save for her. so, jess took her time moving along the sidewalk with her headphones in. there was no danger in the area so why should jessica even bother being on guard?
it had been years since he’d ever been near a school; he thought once about taking a few college courses, but that meant having a permanent address, and sticking around for several months. still, this was the longest time he’d ever stayed in one general location, and he was more or less exploring. not to mention it had been years since he’d been near a high school, but then again… he barely even remembered his four years that ended with him killing his best friend.
“you know,” he said, taking a stride a few feet beside, but also behind her. “isn’t a little late to leave this place? i was only held after when i started a fight or didn’t turn in my shit.”
she didn’t want to help him. hell, she didn’t even want to look at him anymore but the dude was resilient and certainly didn’t seem the type to just walk away- clear seeing as she’d been as rude as POSSIBLE towards him but the man hadn’t budged. like a shadow he clung and followed.
“ here’s an idea: go to the nearest hotel and ask for a map. or even a coffee shop would have one. because the LAST thing i’m going to do is give you my phone, ” jessica tells him sternly, keeping to herself that her phone was almost dead, had no internet, and had a cracked screen. she just wanted to relay the show that she wasn’t planning on helping him even though she had the means to do it.
new york could sometimes be a sketchy place, especially for an ex-hydra agent on the run from hydra. who knows if he worked for them or someone else she had pissed off in the past. right now she just needed to get rid of him and get to safety.
He didn’t expect her to give him anything —- maybe walking away after a bit more debating, but actually helping? Well, it was getting to the point that it wouldn’t happen as time went on.
“You know, the last thing usually is what happens when it comes down to the final line, but fine. You don’t want to help? Well, it seems that you are a waste of time.” He could have mentioned a swarm of other things to honestly call her, but he was far too tired to deal with that this late at night.
new york was known as a city that was dangerous. even before all the superheroes that decided to pop up that brought along the villains. it was dark and crowded and could be very dangerous if someone was not careful. now, the safety had improved quite a bit thanks to the presence of the avengers, defenders, spider-man, and all of the others but there were still some sections of the city that still were dragged down by the darkness that was new york’s history.
and the area they were in, well, jessica was the only super person that seemed to patrol them. it was dark and seedy, and sometimes not so good people were about. the man before her was currently on that scheme of things, at least in her mind. men who approached girls on the street at night could never be up to something good.
the glare on her face does not fade. if anything, it seems like her glare grows darker and deeper. “ google it or go to the one i told you. surely you’ve heard of a cell phone, yeah? ”
there was a slight amount of ANNOYANCE that was building up in the back of his mind; the simple fact was that as much as ky’lar WISHED he could simply walk way, it wouldn’t SERVE anyone well at the current time, and there was no DOUBT about it that it would only get him in more trouble.
if it was one thing he was SURE about, it was that the girl wasn’t exactly too keen on HELPING him out. not that he could truly BLAME her; if he was in the same position, he more than likely WOULD have done the same thing ( more or less ).
❝ —– yeah. i’ve heard of one. ❞ that much was quite OBVIOUS in this day and age. a reason to why he decided it was in his BEST interests to take a step BACK; not just from her, but the situation. true, he SHOULD have just gone to a RUN down hotel, but at this RATE, he could DEAL with walking around until he FOUND one that was MANAGEABLE in his own standards,
❝ mine’s DEAD is all….doesn’t hold a charge too well. ❞ though, the reality of matters was he was just UNMOTIVATED, but that was ultimately not here nor there.
