Nick stood, surprisingly stead on his feet considering the number of times his glass had been refilled tonight. He held it in the hand he motioned with, now, accusatory finger in Ky’s face.

“You’re kind of a nihilistic prick, ain’t ya?“ He took a drink, before throwing the glass behind his back. Enough drinking. And more than enough self pity. Perhaps it was time he got back out there. Maybe, just maybe, what he needed… was a hobby.

“I like that about you. I’m in. When do I get to flay someone alive? It always was my favorite.“

He knew that this was a risk; no one in their right mind should have agreed to this little ‘team’ of his. Then again, Ky wasn’t exactly in his right mind either. He just wanted to do something and have a few people to back him up. Sure, it would turn out ugly, but as long as there was a few ground rules? He didn’t see how anything could go horribly wrong.

“See, now that is what i’m talking about.” Ky couldn’t help the grin that spread from ear to ear.  “You’ll get your fill  of flaying and everything else. I can promise you that and more.” Much more if he was being honest with himself, but he wasn’t going to put on the table more than he could offer. Not yet anyways.

Nick snorted a brief laugh, glancing up at Ky’lar. The man was pretty, had that going for him. But Nick had experience in this arena. Knew it was almost always a waste of effort.

“Spoiler: they won’t. Even if things go well, you’ll trip at the finish line. Or someone on your team will decide that the final stage of your master plan is the perfect time to stage a coup. Most villains are just unreliable, from the start.“

“The same could be said about most heroes.” Of course, Ky tried to keep interactions with most people to a minimum. There was  always a tendency to kill them if they got under his skin. Not to mention throw them to the ‘wolves’ if things started to go south.

“When something doesn’t go to plan they start in-fighting and then all hell breaks lose.” Not to mention the damage they caused, but quite honestly… that was besides the point. “It doesn’t matter their titles… people are always going to do what they want.”

“Yeah, don’t fuckin’ bother.“

Nick took a drink of his bourbon, not noticing the burn anymore. Perhaps he was actually still dead, and this demonic blooded idiot was here to torment him. No real way of knowing, was there?

“It’s a waste of time. Trust me, I’ve tried it. Never works.“

“It hasn’t worked for you.”

Was he being a bit too bold?  Most likely. The warnings wouldn’t stop him from doing anything rash, but he’d at least listen…. more or less  to them.

“I’m sure I can come up with something that won’t fail  or be a waste… if everything goes to plan.”

“I’m busy,“ Nick replied without looking up. He poured himself another drink, letting a fair bit of bourbon spill before being done filling the glass. “Got all kind’s a shit goin’ on, can’t you see?“

“Everyone’s always busy or not interested.” There was a full out roll of his eyes. “So, I guess i’ll try someone else – unless you have any potential recommendations.” Even if this specific individual didn’t work out… he had other options. Several other options… just getting that desperate was something he dreaded
