was going to say “at least i’m a better person than my father” but that’s? such a low bar, really? but it’s also not a lie, technically, so. better person than my father! at least. just casually stepping over that nearly-on-the-floor bar
❝ it’s been suggested. ❞
he hasn’t really had the time to take it under ADVISEMENT, but it’d probably mean less trouble in his life, less enemies and unpleasant interactions leaving him teetering back and forth between reaching for a weapon. as it stood, he hadn’t. but sometimes it was safer to air on the side of CAUTION.
❝ you’re talkin’ about a waltz. BIG DISTINCTION. i’m more interested in a short, kind of unpleasant looking guy with a comb-over, and while we’re on the subject —
do you USUALLY hang around places like this? ❞
ky could have simply said the guy wasn’t here or even better – pointed him in another direction. of course, that would have meant more motivation then he had, and it more than likely… it meant he was being helpful. so, he opted for the more sarcastic option.
❝ do you? ❞
a simple question. one that was filled to the brim with sarcasm. not that the answer mattered – not to him at least, but all the same, ky knew it had to be asked one way or another.
❝ as it stands… what i enjoy is you giving me some peace or is that too much to ask?❞
a pen taps against a book, small flakes of leather crumbling slightly as the wear of time left its mark on the old text. the material that was written on the old vellum was of no importance to the demon, he himself had a copy of the book, stashed away after the contents were stolen when they were originally written ( or maybe this was the copy, age does tend to wear on one’s memory ). the one who did take interest in the intricacies of heaven and hell, however, would be searching for the book held in the weathered hands of the inquisitor.
there was enough to go around for the two of them.
“i would be careful that your ego doesn’t overshadow how far you can reach. ” a soft–spoken voice, confusing to those who knew the past of the man currently reclining in the chair of an collector’s library. the mortal did have some taste, even if their sense of morality was nauseating. alastair didn’t care to hide his presence, speaking the instant he hears the muffled steps- hasty, yet not careless. “ you don’t strike me as the type for a history lesson. looking to pick up a new profession, prince? ”
“i think the same could be said about you.” alastair may have been ancient compared to him or… anyone really, but ky never could resist stroking his own ego. even if it meant proving the very same thing he was trying to disprove. eventually, his ego would overshadow his reach, and lead to his inevitable demise or worse.
“not everyone is perfect nor does everyone has time for history lessons.” in this case, ky could make time; if his plans were to go forward, he had to know everything, and that meant even coming here. of course, he could have sent any lower-level demon or even dean into fetch what was needed, but he wanted things done right.
“what i’m here for is what you call information.” his voice darkened ever so slightly as he spoke again. “information,” he mused lowly. “i’m quite certain should be here.”
getting anything together on both heaven or hell – from a non-bias point of view was difficult. he’d found a majority of his information to be false. hell, ky could write an entire book on hell, and it still wouldn’t scratch the surface of what it was.
however, even less was on heaven, and that was concerning. especially since once hell was take care of… he’d hit there next. still, it wasn’t like he had an established time plan for what he wanted to achieve. no, the only plan he had was that he was going to take everything, and that was why he needed to know if there was something that could work in his favor.
ky returned the kiss with a grin. after a few moments however, he spoke again. “eventually,” he mused out lowly. “someone will try to, but i doubt they’d get far. my family is… complicated. one moment they don’t care and the next? well they want my head on a pike.”
violence and destruction went hand in hand these days. anger and rage did as well. death just was something that happened when everything got out of control.
good days were rare, but they happened. he even a good portion of restraint on those days. all the same, ky didn’t think another excuse was needed. he said the truth or, rather, the truth, as he so believed.
❛ would you rather i lie? ❜ a simple question, but one he didn’t need answered. no, it was worthless to explain himself. even more so when there was no doubt in his mind any explanations would be attributed to excuses.
❛ i could, but ❜ he said, shifting topics, ❛ it better be drinks – or something. ❜ truth be told, ky just needed a distraction, and one that hopefully wouldn’t resort to another bloody disaster.
❝ This is most amusing! Your puny little half-breed limbs are not strong enough to kick the ass of even an Asgardian babe, let alone the finest warrior in all nine realms. Consider this a mercy that I grant you this one chance to back down, otherwise I shall return you to your father in pieces. ❞
❝ Doubtful, ❞ he said bluntly. ❝ I’ve fought much taller and thicker things than you. ❞ Ky meant to say more – to elaborate more on the subject, but instead, grunted. ❝ Nor do I back down when I know it’s the right thing to do. ❞ A pause. ❝ You might be the finest warrior in all the nine realms, but you forget… I don’t come from any of them. ❞
after an argument like that, or at least the start of one, the last thing most people would do would be to automatically try to open up more. but she had learned long ago to stop comparing what ky did to what she had learned to be normal behavior. “—— n-no. hey, i would love for you to show me. you don’t ever talk about it.”
she had a feeling that was because it was too hard. despite how scared she had been moments before, she has settled back into what had become her norm. she trusted him not to truly hurt her and noted that she should work on how she expressed her frustrations. “i appreciate it. that you want to open up more to me.”
he didn’t ever talk about it due to the fact it was not just painful, but more importantly, it wasn’t needed. ky may have been close to human once, but he made sure to burn every single bridge down from that time period. it wasn’t exactly that he didn’t want to remember – no, it was more than that. it was that ky didn’t think it was important enough to remember.
though, the real reasons had faded from his mind long ago, he only knew a small portion of what he went through back then. truth be told, he also didn’t care, but the least he could do was attempt to explain somethings – even if it was only so she’d understand him a bit more. “what is there to talk about?” he asked, sucking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly. “more importantly… you never asked.”
