His archaic choice in phrase was unintentional, merely a habit of being long-lived. He is quick to forget which terms have fallen out of fashion and what have instead moved into the lexicon of the modern day. In any case, his meaning was still understood, giving him no reasons to start changing his way of speaking any time soon.
“Ah, nowhere special.” Trying to dodge the question, he wanted to avoid saying the name of his homeland for as long as possible. Gone from existence, the blond had to remind himself more than once that Asgard was more than just a city of gold commanding pious devotion from its lessers. Hopefully under his watch it could be something far better.
“That’s…useful, I think?” Voice undermined by a noticeable pause, his face morphed into an expression that waxed confusion. The other was acting vague, for reasons that were currently unknown. At least he no longer feels guilty of responding in the same style. “Are you not of this place either? Merely a traveller, passing through?”
he wouldn’t exactly say he was passing through or a traveler. no, it was more that ky got bored of his usual routine, and decided to actually go out in the world. it was dangerous, yes, but at least he wasn’t hiding behind four walls, and a roof.
“more like someone who’s stuck in this place until something better comes along.” that was putting it lightly. “there are many places i could go, but something always keeps me centered here.” maybe he could find a way back to mephisto’s realm if he really wanted to. spend a few more years there until he got his head on straight. he just wasn’t willing to crawl back to his father nor grandfather anytime soon.
“the food is good at times. so is the beer.” though, he could drink that down in barrels if he wasn’t careful. the hangover and other effects were worth it though. it caused him to forget and half the time it was worth it. the other half… not so much.
No, they wouldn’t. It was one of the few points they would manage to agree on. Reality was no fairy-tale, nor was Ky taken by a diagnosable affliction. This dark shade was part of the man, for better or worse. Whatever fate laid in store for him at the end of his lifespan, if indeed he would come to know oblivion’s embrace at all would not be pleasant.
“Hmm. Your words fail to convince me, friend. I can hear it in your voice; a hint of a lie meant to fool no one but yourself.” Crossing his arms, the blond gave his words time to settle. Thinking about what to do with the deceased, the beginnings of a suggestion starts to form in his mind, stirring his conscious into a fury. It would be a bold move to make, but it would at least take the heat off Ky for claiming the victim’s life, should they turn out to be a figure of some importance.
“We should probably move on. Before we do that, though, there is the…ah…small matter of dealing with the body to tend to. I can make a suggestion, should you care to listen, unless you’d rather deal with this yourself?”
it was more than a lie to fool himself. if he said it enough… maybe it could start being truth. maybe it was wrong and maybe it wouldn’t change the cold hard facts, but it was something. a lie, as little as it was, would go a long way. he was sure of it.
“i was going to leave it right here.” a suiting end to things. he would leave the body for whoever was unlucky enough to find it and be done with the situation. a fitting end to what happened out of instinct.
more to the point, it wouldn’t be the first, nor would the last time it happened. people died around him when that itch got to unbearable levels. a reason to why he stayed away from the world when it happened. it was safer that way… for everyone.
“unless you have a better idea.” it didn’t matter to him as long as they were gone. the last thing he needed right now was to be on the run from some organization.
maybe he had lost his mind in a way. he had been taking far more risks than he ever had before and each one was more dangerous. this time, ky was starting to think that he could actually take over a planet. it was something so easy, but was also far beyond his reach.
however, the benefits of such an act would be just what he needed to finally get what he wanted, and that to tell all reality he was to be feared. yes, he had already pulled some stunts, but nothing as big as what he was planning. a reason to why he didn’t really care about thor’s words and dismissed them as nothing more than an assumption. an assumption that was actually truth.
“maybe,” he mused out lowly, “does it matter?”
So the seed of a devil was what stood before him this day? That moniker was one had only heard in passing, chatter that persisted like a background noise during his travels between the realms. Unwillingly, his imagination rush to woefully substitute for the missing mental depiction of the so-named demon, confronting Thor with what he could only describe as a horrific vision.
Eyes shut tight, his chest heaves with a large intake of air, drawing strength from the bracing winds surging around them. “Well, son of Blackheart, you have made for yourself this day an enemy in the son of Odin!” And just like that, the first move would go to Thor, who marches forward in a rush before he had even finished speaking.
Given the calibre of the threats Ky had lofted about, the thunderer favours swift resolution instead of a drawn out fight. “Now heed my warning once and beg not for a reminder–” Relying on but a hint of intimidation and threatening words to get his message across, he stretches a hand towards the collar of the other’s shirt, dragging him onto the tips of his toes as he draws his face close to Ky’s. “–Should you continue to remain committed to your evil intentions, I will have no choice but to OBLITERATE you where you currently stand!”
his true form was monstrous; a reason he favored a human body. true, it was just a shell to make him look ‘normal’, but there was much more to it than that. the moment he changed… was the moment all – what little he had of it – vanished. a reason to why he preferred to look like a human. preferred to blend in.
of course, the name son of odin didn’t seem to phase him. gods, demons, humans, and otherwise. they all could bleed. they all could die if given the right tools, but that wasn’t what he was going for. no, not this time. this time, he was simply proving that he would be willing to do anything to get his point across.
a reason to why a smirk spread across his lips as he was dragged up by the god. oh, he had an ace in his pocket – one he wasn’t sure would work, but one he only would use if the circumstances were dire enough to use it. of course, for the time being, he wasn’t even going to, but still… dropping a few certain comments had gone a long way in the past — why shouldn’t they the same now?
“i don’t back out when things get too harsh, son of odin.” his words came out smoother than he thought as his hands clenched into tight fists. “you hurt me and you’ll have my father to deal with.” though, in reality, blackheart was far more reasonable than ky’lar, but that was also attributed to the fact that wisdom comes with age… and failures.
Had he been given the choice, Thor would’ve preferred to blame his present displacement on a long night spent drinking the headiest of mead, more than willing to accept the temporary memory loss that came with crashing through the limits of his hardy constitution. Still, there was no point in dwelling on missed opportunities. His search for answers had been met with half articulated explanations, an already better development than having known nothing of the area a mere handful of minutes past.
“You’re correct, this place does not like it would be fit to be called ‘Kansas’, though with a name like that I wonder what would suffice.” In a showing of cluelessness, the blond demonstrates his unfamiliarity with Earth’s way of speaking, treating the throwaway remark as if it stood for something substantial. It was something he should probably work on, something to fill the vacant hours between protecting his people and aiding the heroes of this realm.
“So we are– as the saying goes– out in the sticks?” Saying the phrase aloud appears to bring the thunderer joy rather than any negative feelings. Had it not been apparent before, his mannerisms were beginning to paint the picture of a man not at all in touch with the ways of this planet. “Splendid! All that I need do next is find the nearest tavern and I will be content!” Or one with a eye to recognise danger when it is standing there before him in the shape of man.
there was a roll of his eyes and an itch to ask what he meant by tavern. yet, he restrained himself. no, he wasn’t going to ask about what he meant by it. ky knew enough the other wanted a drink. though, still, the use of tavern was rarely… if ever used. at least where he had been.
“out in the middle of nowhere.” though, they were still somewhere, but that was ultimately besides the point, “so, where are you from?” he was going to make a few assumptions, but instead, he decided against them. no, for now he was going to be decent. well, as much as he could be before causing more than just a little chaos.
“the nearest bar is…” he actually didn’t know where… he just knew he had a loaded fridge with beer back in his hotel room, but that was his personal stash. something… he wasn’t willing to give to anyone. “somewhere.”
Listening to the other’s explanation, the blond couldn’t help but pity him. True, he had been premature to judge, especially when knowing only half the tale, especially after being treated to a showing of its worse aspects. Still, admitting certain failings of restraint was something he could respect, for it laid the foundations for improvements and eventually mastery over the abilities that had escaped the man’s control. It meant that Ky could still be saved, to some small degree.
“Then you have my apologies. It was wrong of me to make assumptions.” Admitting his mistakes, Thor’s voice was soft, not wishing to disturb already choppy waters. Of the gruesome deed itself, he took no side. It was not in his remit to say whether such a death was deserved, or if Hela herself had snagged a soul not meant for the realm of the dead.
“From what I’ve seen your actions were instinctive, no more different than a bull charging at a wavering flag.” Stepping closer to Ky, he stopped short of offering the man any kind of support. He had lost control, yes, but in the process the life of a human had been claimed– and that was something Thor couldn’t easily overlook no matter how hard he tried.
“But let’s not speak of what has happened any longer. Instead, answer me this: are you back in control, now that violent appetites have been satiated?”
it wasn’t that simple, it never was that simple; his urges never went away. he could ignore them for a time – they always came back. sometimes, he locked himself in a cold room, but it was so much easier to top resisting. a prime reason why he got into so much trouble these days. he stopped caring about his actions.
he wanted control, yes, but he knew that control was sometimes the same as suppression. a reason to why he avoided training himself to have proper restraint over his powers. he needed that edge… the edge of the unknown at times.
thor was right though; his actions were done out of an instinct he had no control over. it was either resist or kill. he couldn’t resist any longer so he killed. he ripped the heart out like it was nothing and didn’t even pause to think about his actions. years ago, he might have, but now… he failed to see the point.
“they never fade.” a simple truth for the most part. “i’m fine… i’m content.” a lie, he never would be fine, but… at least believing his own words was a start.
Whether they were but idle threats or genuine warnings to take heed of, Thor had passed the point of being lenient. He could appreciate banter when welcomed but even his good humour would turn to ash and blow away in face of threats levelled against the humans he had come to admire. No, as long as he was capable of drawing breath, he refused to let any residents of Midgard come to harm by this stranger’s hand.
“By Odin’s blood I won’t let you claim a single innocent’s life!” Voice raised, Thor’s stance shifts into that of a man anticipating an attack. Outraged by what he has heard, thunder booms in the background, loud and distant. A warning to those who wish to fall foul of a god’s wrath. “Why don’t I spare us both the trouble and settle this petty squabble here and now – before you would partake in such a terrible quest!”
Quick to anger, the blond prepares himself for any sign of trouble, unarmed for the moment though he did let a hand hover near his belt in case he had need to draw his blade from its sheath. “What manner of creature are you to invent such ideas of carnage? Answer me swiftly, cretin! My patience is not without its limits!”
no one was innocent. even ky’lar knew that. everyone had done stuff that was wrong, everyone lied, and everyone died. it didn’t matter the species nor did it matter the circumstances around their actions. everyone was capable of great evil if given the chance or choice.
his species wasn’t what was important at the moment. nor did he think it ever would be. human or demon. he never could bloody decide on what he truly wanted to be. of course, he didn’t need to be a demon to threaten to raise cities. humans did it enough with their wars.
even as he could hear the thunder, he stays firm. no, he wasn’t going to back down. not when he had already pressed the stakes high enough to the point of no going back. no, the only way forward was straight on through the other, and that was exactly what he was going to do.
“the son of blackheart.” he doubted that the title would really mean anything to the other, but he had hoped that even gods had known of his father. after-all, his grandfather was mephistopheles himself, and that was what truly made him dangerous. “that… is who i am.”
there was possibly better ways to deal with people. ripping their hearts out was just something that was new. it was uncharted territory… something that he usually would have avoided, but now he was starting to enter. a reason to why he wanted everything cleaned up as soon as possible. that way, he didn’t have to worry about the clean up, and he could wipe the blood off his hands.
of course, he didn’t even get the chance to this time around. shortly after the kill, he slid both of his hands into the pockets of his jacket like he usually did. it was just blood… just a human. why should he care? he didn’t, but… he was starting to. at least for the moment.
“you don’t approve?” a scoff soon escaped his lips, “typical.” he glanced towards the other for a few moments, “i don’t…” he let a sigh escape his lips. “i don’t, “ he repeated, “have that much control over my abilities. i can’t just meditate. it doesn’t work like that.”
The phrase was the first that had come to his mind. If given time, he was certain he would be able to invent far superior insults to use. Though his arrogance had dwindled somewhat in his interaction’s with Earth’s mortals, there was the rare occasion when it was prone to surfacing again– especially if provoked.
Such a time had arrived in the form of Ky, who, completely unaware to the thunderer, was born of the demon’s taint, even though it wasn’t Muspelheim that had spawned his wretchedness. “Would you like me to continue? Do forgive me but I find myself in the mind that you mortals are all– how do they say it? – oh, yes, all bark and no bite!” At least that’s what he had wished to believe in any case.
And then the threat filled his ears. The second he heard Ky express his terrible intentions, Thor’s behaviour changes. Gone is that earlier look of boastful confidence, replaced by a hardened veneer that saw his brows furrow and bright eyes clouding with suspicion. “Come again? I could’ve sworn you had just threatened me.”
Clenching his fists, he briefly taps into the lake of his power, feeling the air charge and crackle with an energy that was his to command. If Ky wished to go down this road, the thunderer was not going to stop him.
In fact, he welcomed such a foolish decision.
“Because if you did, I’ll be there to face you in every town and settlement you dare to visit before even considering bending the knee to the likes of you.”
it was more than just a simple threat. it was a promise. something that ky would do to get what he wanted. it wouldn’t have been the first time he did something like this and it wouldn’t be the last. he only had an ounce – in his mind – of his father’s power, but it would still be enough to handle this.
true, he never faced off against a god before, but there was no doubt in his mind he could handle it. a burst of overconfidence was all he needed and then he could focus on the task at hand. to come out of his in one piece… he would have to go through with everything and prove that he was to be feared. if not for himself… for his reputation.
though the truth of the matter was that he didn’t want to go down this road. he didn’t want to take out whole cities just to get one god to bow before him. no, that was heading in the direction of his father, and yet… he didn’t see anything wrong with it. nor did he have any inclination to stop while he was head. not now at least.
“an’ i’ll be ready.” it was a bold statement, even bolder considering what he was doing to do. he had killed before, but it was all for a purpose. all for a direct reason and never just to force someone to bend the knee. no, this was uncharted territory, and something that he there was no doubt he could ever come back from. “to face you at every town and every corner of the globe. people will die until you bend the knee. “
“their death’s will be on your head.”
if this was any other time, ky might have shrugged off the words as a slight jest. after-all, not many liked him, but this time around… he was going to up the stakes so to speak. no, this time, he wasn’t going to simply let thor’s words glance off his shoulders. god or otherwise… he didn’t care. thor wasn’t doing what the demon wanted.
“rabid beast?” the term was laughable, but still, ky thought he could do some damage to the god. after-all, give someone enough incentive and they can move mountains. or even murder a god.
he couldn’t help the scoff that escaped his lips, “really, that’s the best you could come up with?” honestly, ky could have came up with several more, “i thought someone like you could do more than that.” then again, that was just all assumptions on his part. “now, this rabid beast... is going to do more than just force you to bow.” in-fact, he was going to do much more, “i’ll wipe a city off the map every hour. on the other. for as long as you refuse to do as i ask.”
