“sounds even better. get a good vantage point after that and we may be able to trim the hunter population a tiny bit after that.”
“well, anything is possible given the right tools,” he mused. “i’d say trim the hunter population majorly – maybe even take a few thousand souls while we’re at it.”
“yeah? it’s not me that i need to get over.” of course, he was feeling sorry for himself. but he felt awful for everyone involved and couldn’t get away from thoughts of sam and jess, two people that had been of utmost importance to him in his brief time at stanford. he wanted to forget and he wanted to move on, but living this shitty normal life in the shadows didn’t seem worth it. honestly, he wished he had only met his tragic end and that had been it. “monsters are hard to get away from once you know about ‘em.”
“not really,” he said, taking a step forward. “monsters can be forgotten about the moment you chose to move on. sometimes it’s harder than others, but in all honesty? not overly difficult.” maybe it was, but ky didn’t see it that way – then again, he didn’t quite care either. “you just have to realize what you want or… don’t want rather.”
“she’s turned you into a big ole softie hasn’t she?” he knew that wasn’t entirely true, saying it purely to get him going a little bit. “she’s got a true talent for that, i suppose. a great choice, after all.” sam and jess’s relationship hadn’t always been smooth sailing, but he had been there with what they probably considered sound advice when they needed it.
“she’s turned me into nothing!” maybe he shouldn’t have raised his voice, but at the same time, he doubted that it truly mattered. “i’m not going soft for her, nor,” his voice raised even higher, “do you even assume that i’ve turned soft towards anyone. i may only be half a demon, but i assure you… i can send you to the darkest parts of hell, and you’ll never be heard from again. do you understand?”
“cas has always had a very BIG HEART. unfortunately it will eventually be his DOWNFALL.” he had no doubts that his brother would zap his friends back to life when he could, but he would not intervene in his case. no matter how INSUFFERABLE the winchesters had become now that they were wary of castiel’s actions. “i will not hesitate to SHUT DOWN any moves against my brother, however.”
“you can’t protect him forever.” then again, ky never had a brother or anyone really. he didn’t truly understand family bonds of that sort and from what he knew of them? family sucked… it didn’t matter what you were. “eventually… someone will manage to take him out.” ky wished that it could be himself, but he would rather deal with the angels who despised him, tried to kill him first, or simply managed to get in his way. “sadly enough… it won’t be me.”
“the only way you can call him my boss is if you’re referring to the fact that he signs my checks.” currently, she was pissed off at lucifer. she had always been loyal to him, and for what? him to always brush her off? “if you’re looking for a favor you’re wasting your time.”
“well, i’ve wasted my time on worse things than this. so,” he slipped his hands into the pockets of his jacket, “i think i’ll take my chances on this.” even if things were slim… ky would still attempt to do things half-way decently. even if he couldn’t exactly cut corners this time around. “among other things, i wouldn’t be here unless it was important.”
“some people take their morals and responsibilities seriously. though that is becoming less and less common these days.”
“an’ some people are fools,” he said sharply. “as the old saying goes… give a man a fish and he can eat for a day – teach him how to fish? he can eat for a lifetime.” a pause. “or as long as he has the right tools, but after a while? he may get bored – he may think that if he catches enough fish, he can sell them, and start saving. soon, he no longer fishes, and one day he’s right back to where he started.” he shrugged. “everyone has a breaking point. even me.”
❝ – wait. you killed them, didn’t you? ❞ for the most part, he tried to keep his existence under wraps. working a human job where his power could come in handy, saving not only the people in danger but the firefighters alongside him. it was subtle enough that it seemed that they got lucky or things weren’t as bad as they seemed to be. sometimes he would find someone random to help out, which he wished he could do more. but becoming a magic healer was something that drew too much attention to him and he would guess that would quickly put him six feet under.
❝ – why – why would you do that? ❞
“if we’re being entirely honest, i don’t need to explain myself to you period.” maybe he should have kept his tongue in check; clipped his words before adding the last bit in with acid venom dripping from his lips. ky was in a mood where he didn’t want to be questioned; it didn’t matter who it was nor what they could do. he just didn’t care. “now, if you don’t want to join them… you’ll stop with the stupid questions.”
there was just so many questions; part of him wanted to snap both of their necks with out a second thought. he’d done it before and wasn’t above doing it again. however, he doubted that jess would enjoy that little change of pace. no, he had to keep things civil, and their murders would come later. who needed family anyways? they were just distracting. even more so when it came to his own. foolish and… unnecessary. that was something he managed to learn a very long time ago. “i protect our dear jess from things you wouldn’t even begin to believe or even understand.” He could have gone on for a while, but he settled on something far more generic rather than specifics. “she may be a mere… human, but are you truly wanting the truth about her or just me?”
“the problem with deceit does not lie within how harsh it is… truth may hurt but at least you are proving yourself to be more trustworthy in the end.” even if people thought you were a lunatic until the truth was proven to them.
“the truth always hurts,” he said. “it doesn’t matter if it’s needed or otherwise. eventually, you learn that lies – while they do hurt – are much easier to put out on the table.” a shrug. “if you don’t get caught in them.” if you did? that made things more complicated, but truth be told? it was worth it either way.
“that’s likely to make matters worse, though i’m sure it would be quite entertaining.” he had no interest in anything to do with the moore girl, but he did find entertainment in watching everything unfold after he had showed up to the little hideout she had been in to talk to ky’lar. “making use of your time not having to worry about a human for a few days?”
“it might, but she’s just angry. her fire burns, but not as much as my own.” maybe he was underestimating her, but quite honestly? he didn’t care. no, ky never did when it came to these situations. “with her gone, i don’t have to worry about upsetting her, but i still miss having her practically eating out of my hand.” a pause. “humans are so… amusing.”
