❝ —- and what makes you think it is of any concern to you? ❞
“’cause i’m the one with the most cash on their person at the moment.”
“it’s better than nothin’ ain’t it? gives you a little bit more time
to figure out a more permanent solution in the mean time?” bobby didn’t
have much help to offer about hellhounds. they weren’t something he
dealt with apart from rufus telling him that there wasn’t anything they
could do to stop them back in the day.
“i think the only real solution is to face everything.” that meant actually evading the dogs long enough to slip back into hell. only then would they stop – only then would he not be hunted. the only problem was he didn’t want to face what awaited him there. not if he could help it. “and that’s not happening.”
‘yeah. most of us only pick up on the hell hound deaths, rather than at the direct hands of demons anyway. can’t really help with the dogs either. and a lot of the time it can be the ones that sell their soul for fame or a certain longer appendage have a bigger lesson to learn, anyway. as awful as that is.’
‘humans are weird.’ they had potential, but that was slowly fading by the day. they were flawed, murderous, and confused. sometimes, he enjoyed playing with them, but in truth? ky thought he was better than them… a reason to why he didn’t care about their lives.nor did he want to most of the time. ‘i stopped trying to explain what they do long ago.”
❝ —- might not be my business, but it does. ❞ at least, it did while he was in the area.
“Humanity has the ability to create, learn, grow… only limited in the strength that comes naturally to the other worldly beings.” He had no doubts about that. “I do applaud your ability to dodge the question.”
“humanity can also destroy themselves.” that much was a simple fact, but one that wasn’t here nor there, “they always have had that ability.” of course, he ignored the last bit. what he was didn’t matter. not now. not in his mind.
“They don’t need too much time to kill ya. You think pulling it off will stop it?” He wondered what he had done to get one on his tail anyway. Usually Bobby strayed away from hound cases, not that they were easy to find. Demons he could deal with, hell hounds not so much.
he wasn’t even sure if it would work; killing the hound wouldn’t stop anything. another would come or someone else would drag him back down. for the moment, he didn’t want to go back. well, not until he was ready, and at this rate, he wouldn’t be for a long while, “it will delay the inevitable. for a while at least.”
‘i’ll leave the easier things to the novices… i mean, i don’t do too much hunting myself these days. not like i used to. vampires, werewolves, ghosts… sometimes i wonder how the public never picks up on those.’ people were too hopeful in the face of things that didn’t add up. so willing to believe whatever words the police had printed in the papers.
‘i can’t imagine living afterward, even if i healed up. i mean, it’s damn awful when you see those injuries catch up with someone… but at least they don’t gotta deal with living with all of those memories.’
‘true, but sometimes… people are stubborn. they refuse to die and have to accept what had happened. then again, demons leaving meat suits that are alive… either do so for a reason or they don’t understand the need for disposing of one.’ most demons would kill their host… that was the way of things. to not do so… well.. that was just plain weird. surviving? well, it was rare but it happened. ‘usually they are just idiots… leaving a host alive is dangerous.’
‘maybe if i want to lose my lunch. and that defeats the whole purpose of a treat, doesn’t it?’
‘maybe so.’ honestly, it didn’t matter to him; he rarely ate anyways, ‘then again, it’s just perspective.’
‘maybe you haven’t found the right people yet… it took me a while too. things fade but the right people will stay.’ ash had made friends with a few hunters, but ellen and jo were his family. a chosen family could turn out to be a thousand times better than one that was given, which was what had happened in his case. ‘too many people are focused on the things these days.’
‘in my experience, people fade away too. they say they’ll be there, but then they vanish.’ quite frankly, ky would have enjoyed being alone all the time, but then again, there were times he needed someone. even if it was just to boss around or get him something to drink. that was the way it always was, ‘ just the way of things.’
“And what beef would Hell have with you if you’re up here making deals, gathering souls?” Crossroads demons were a tough thing. Most people had to know what it meant to make a deal with a demon or dark entity, whatever they thought it was. All it took was common sense, even if it wasn’t spelled outright for them. Some people made selfish deals, others out of pure desperation for someone they cared about. It was hard to sort through that mess, which was why Sidney typically strayed away.
“the thing about hell is it’s complicated.” far more than he would let on in reality, “you spend so long down there and sometimes you slip up.” or, in his case, tried to take it over, and attempted to kill several high ranking members. either way, it was bad; so bad to the point he didn’t want to go back until the time was right.”i’m safe up here, but down there? not so much. no one is.”
